On the afternoon of November 21, Nghe An General Hospital held a ceremony to welcome the first babies born through in vitro fertilization. Attending the ceremony were Professor, Dr. Nguyen Viet Tien - Deputy Minister of Health, and leaders of Nghe An Department of Health. |
In February 2017, the Reproductive Support Unit of Nghe An General Hospital was officially established. In preparation for the unit to come into operation, in 2015, the Provincial General Hospital sent medical teams to study in vitro fertilization techniques at the National Reproductive Support Center, Central Obstetrics Hospital (Hanoi) and Tu Du Hospital, Hy Vong Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City); invested in purchasing equipment worth nearly 30 billion VND.
Ms. Le Thi T. (in Hung Nguyen district) and Ms. Nguyen Thi T. (in Dien Chau district) were the first two cases to undergo IVF. Two weeks after the embryo transfer, they officially received the good news. During the 9 months of pregnancy, the two women were closely monitored by doctors at Nghe An General Hospital.

At 8:20 a.m. on November 17, the first baby girl of mother Le Thi T. was born by cesarean section. The baby girl weighed 3.7 kg, and all vital signs were good. At 9:35 a.m. on the same day, the baby girl of mother Nguyen Thi T. (Dien Chau) was also born by cesarean section. The baby weighed 3.6 kg, and both mother and child were in stable health.
Up to now, 35 couples have successfully performed assisted reproductive techniques at Nghe An General Hospital. It is known that the cost of each IVF procedure in Nghe An currently ranges from 50 to 70 million VND. With the implementation of IVF techniques in Nghe An, it has opened up opportunities for infertile couples in the province and the North Central region with lower treatment costs.

Presenting flowers and congratulating Nghe An General Hospital, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Viet Tien highly appreciated Nghe An province's determination to build a high-tech medical center in the North Central region; and the hospital's efforts in approaching, learning, and successfully implementing it in a short time.
Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Viet Tien hopes that in the coming time, Nghe An General Hospital will continuously learn to improve its level and specialized techniques to avoid possible errors and eliminate genetic defects and diseases.
