Ministry of Health provides detailed instructions on home quarantine to prevent Covid-19

Department of Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Health March 9, 2020 17:58

The Ministry of Health has issued guidelines for home and accommodation quarantine to prevent the Covid-19 epidemic.

Accordingly, subjects quarantined at home or place of residence are those who do not have symptoms of suspected nCoV infection (cough, fever, shortness of breath) and have one of the following factors:

- Living in the same house or place of residence with a confirmed case or suspected case during the period of illness.

- Work with a confirmed or suspected case during the illness.

- Being in the same tourist group, working group, or entertainment group with a confirmed or suspected case during the illness.

- Having close contact within 2 meters with a confirmed or suspected case during the illness in any situation.

- Sitting in the same row or two rows in front or behind on the same bus/train/plane with a confirmed or suspected case.

- Foreigners entering Vietnam from China or having passed through China (except Hubei province) within 14 days from the date of entry.

The maximum quarantine period is 14 days, calculated from the date of last contact with a confirmed or suspected case or from the date of entry into Vietnam. When the suspected case is diagnosed as not having the disease, the quarantine of the related quarantined persons will end.

The quarantined person must self-isolate at home or at his/her place of residence for the prescribed period of time, preferably in a separate room. In case the family or place of residence does not have a separate room, the quarantined person's bed should be at least 2 meters away from the beds of other family members and the person should measure their body temperature at least twice a day (morning and afternoon); record the measurement results and general health status on the daily health monitoring form.

The isolation room should be well-ventilated, regularly cleaned, and have limited furniture and items in the isolation room.

People in quarantine should limit leaving their rooms every day, limit direct contact with family members, accommodation and other people; self-monitor their health; practice personal hygiene, wear masks, and wash hands regularly with soap or other antiseptic solutions.

People in quarantine must collect used masks, towels, and tissues in separate trash bags and place them neatly in a corner of the quarantined person's room; do not eat with family members or other members of the accommodation; and do not leave the house or accommodation without permission.

At the same time, immediately notify the assigned commune, ward, or town health worker in charge of monitoring as soon as one of the suspected symptoms of the disease appears: fever, cough, or difficulty breathing.
