(Baonghean.vn) - People in the mountainous commune of Quynh Thang, Quynh Luu district, have introduced Thai wild boar to raise. Many households have become rich with an income of 200 - 300 million VND/year.
The family of Mr. Le Van Phuong in hamlet 1 Tien Thanh, Quynh Thang commune is one of many households raising wild boars on a large scale in the locality.
With an area of 1 hectare of garden land, in 2008, Mr. Phuong renovated the ground, built barns and bought 27 wild boars to raise with an initial budget of more than 270 million VND. After many years of developing wild boar farming, Mr. Phuong realized that this breed of livestock was effective and highly economical, so from 2012 to present, Mr. Phuong continued to raise a large number of over 120 pigs.

Mr. Phuong shared that he always researches and learns about animal husbandry, goes online to create a website to promote animal husbandry products, so the market is increasingly expanding, more customers know about it and place regular orders.
To successfully raise wild boars, the most important step is to select the breed. Currently, Mr. Phuong is raising Thai wild boars. They have the characteristics of eating a lot and growing quickly. When sold, they weigh from 25 to 30 kg/head. Each year, Mr. Phuong sells 9 to 13 tons to the market, at a price of 120,000 VND/kg. After expenses, Mr. Phuong earns a net profit of 300 to 350 million VND/year.
Up to now, the people of hamlet 1 Tien Thanh have all switched from raising white pigs to raising wild pigs with about 30 households. With a large area of hilly land, the households all raise them freely.

Mr. Nguyen Van Minh, a wild boar farmer, said that although wild boars take nearly 2 years to sell, their prices are always stable, with a value 10 times higher than that of traditional pigs. According to Mr. Minh, wild boars are omnivorous, so they cost little in terms of food. They often eat corn bran, rice, and vegetables and fruits to stimulate growth. In particular, wild boars have high resistance and rarely get sick, so they only need airy barns, vaccination against common diseases, and regular deworming to ensure their growth and development.
According to statistics, the whole Quynh Thang commune currently has about 50 households raising wild boars with a total of more than 1,200 pigs, of which about 10 households raise large-scale pigs from 100 - 150 pigs/batch. In order for the local wild boar farming to develop and expand as it is today, many households focus on purchasing products for local people and then selling them to other provinces with a quantity of dozens of tons per year. Thanks to the stable output, local people are confident to develop their herds.
