Police surrounded and arrested a group of oil thieves on the river.
Tran Van Tha, 27 years old, and two accomplices drove a motorboat close to cargo ships to drill and steal nearly a thousand liters of oil but were surrounded and arrested by the police.
In the early morning of May 2, Tha and two accomplices rode a motorboat, carrying tools, and approached cargo ships anchored on the Cho Dem River (District 8) to drill and steal nearly 1,000 liters of DO oil.
On the roadpatrol, the working group of Rach Cat Waterway Police Station of Ho Chi Minh City Police discovered Tha and two others driving a motorboat carrying many plastic cans from Cho Dem River to Binh Dien Bridge. Surrounded, Tha's group pulled over to the embankment, jumped onto the railing to escape but were arrested and taken to the police station. The police confiscated the motorboat, 26 plastic cans containing DO oil, and many other exhibits (scissors, pliers, wrenches, hammers, flexible hoses, etc.).
Tha was handed over to District 8 Police for further investigation. Confessing to the police, the young man admitted that because he was skilled in watercraft, he invited his accomplices to steal oil from cargo ships to sell and share the money.
