President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has sent a letter to US President Joe Biden discussing bilateral relations, especially strengthening cooperation in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic. |
In the letter, the President welcomed and thanked the United States for being a major contributor by pledging to fund 4 billion USD for the Covid-19 Vaccine Global Access Initiative (COVAX) and informed President Joe Biden that Vietnam has received two batches of about 2.5 million doses of vaccine from this initiative. COVAX is truly valuable support, helping Vietnam and many developing countries in time to deal with the pandemic when international vaccine supplies are still scarce.
The President also welcomed the US commitment to contribute an additional 80 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine to the international community's joint efforts amid the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. President Nguyen Xuan Phuc hoped that the US would continue to support Vietnam and other countries in vaccine supply, and suggested that the two sides strengthen cooperation in research, production and technology transfer of Covid-19 vaccines.
The President affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the Comprehensive Partnership with the United States and believes that in the spirit of friendly cooperation, the two sides will continue to promote bilateral relations to become increasingly deeper and more substantive, bringing benefits to the people of both countries and contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Previously, in recent phone calls with senior leaders of China, Russia, Japan, etc., the leaders of the Party, State and Government of Vietnam asked these countries to support access to vaccine sources and cooperate in research, technology transfer and production of vaccines to prevent Covid-19.
