At Hung Thang and Hung Tan communes, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and the delegation inspected Hung Nghia bara, Hung Thang commune, and the 12/9 pumping station in Hung Tan commune. Hundreds of hectares of summer-autumn rice in these communes have been abandoned due to lack of irrigation water. Currently, nearly 300 hectares of highland rice in the two communes of Hung Yen Nam and Hung Yen Bac have no water for production.

Up to now, the district has 1,800 hectares of cultivated land lacking water and suffering from severe drought, especially 800 hectares of seriously drought. If there is no water in the next 4-5 days, there is a risk of death.

According to the report, in 2016, Nghi Loc planted 7,500 hectares of summer-autumn rice, and so far has planted 4,816 hectares, of which summer-autumn rice is 2,830 hectares, winter-spring crop is 1,987 hectares; 2,683 hectares have not been planted.

The whole district has 40 reservoirs, of which 8 reservoirs have a design capacity of 1 million to 5 million m³1,600 hectares of rice irrigation are all dry.

In Hung Yen South, many rice growing areas are seriously lacking water.

60 irrigation pumping stations for 4,300 hectares, of which the pumping stations on the Khe Cai canal system in the communes of Nghi Cong Nam, Nghi Cong Bac, Nghi Lam and Nghi Kieu ran out of water and had to stop operating. The pumping stations in the agricultural area of ​​Gai canal had low water levels and had to pump in rotation because there was not enough water to pump and they were often salty.

Currently, 2,830 hectares of summer-autumn rice planted in Nghi Loc are in the tillering period and are facing a severe water shortage. If there is no rain in the next few days, it is likely that more than 1,000 hectares of rice will die.

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nghe An has 625 reservoirs, of which 89 are managed by enterprises and 536 are managed by localities. The water level of the reservoirs is falling compared to the same period in 2015. In particular, the capacity of the reservoirs managed by localities is currently only 20-50%, many reservoirs have dried up in the districts of Tan Ky, Nghi Loc, Yen Thanh, Quynh Luu... Some reservoirs have dried up to dead water level.

The planned area for summer-autumn production in 2016 is 94,000 hectares; 84,033 hectares have been planted, and nearly 10,000 hectares have not been planted yet. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is continuing to direct the sowing of seasonal rice, switching to planting 2,650 hectares of corn and 2,000 hectares of other crops.

At the working session with localities and departments, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged the efforts of the agricultural sector and localities in drought prevention work.

In the face of the current severe and prolonged drought, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development needs to promptly consult with the authorities to find timely solutions. The Chairman of the People's Committee emphasized that relevant departments and branches need to coordinate and work with hydropower plants to release water to serve the summer-autumn production of 2016.
