The impressive 'comeback' story of the top student in Chemistry in Nghe An province
Le Quang Nam - a student of class 12A1 - Que Phong High School is one of the few candidates who won the first prize (group B) at the Nghe An Province Excellent Student Competition for grade 12 students. With a convincing score of 18.25 points, Nam is also the valedictorian in Chemistry - a subject that is not an advantage for many students in the highlands.
Difficult move
Le Quang Nam entered grade 10 - Que Phong High School with the achievement of winning the Encouragement Prize in History at the Provincial Excellent Student Competition in grade 9.
With a good foundation, many people thought that Nam would choose Social Sciences to develop his advantages. However, surprisingly, Nam chose Natural Sciences and accepted to "go slower" than his classmates, because he had to start from scratch with many subjects such as Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Talking about this decision, Nam said: I still love History but I am not confident in other Social Science subjects, especially Literature and Geography. Therefore, I want to choose a different path to have more opportunities for myself when entering university.

Starting with a big gap, Nam encountered many difficulties in studying natural sciences. During that process, Nam admitted that there were times when he wanted to give up because he felt that his progress was slow compared to his friends.
Later, to make up for the knowledge that had been missing for many years, Nam had to study in parallel, which was to study on his own online to supplement the old knowledge from his secondary school years. At the same time, he still had to master the knowledge in the textbooks, and for any lessons that he did not understand or were unclear about, he would ask his friends and teachers.
Accompanying and directly teaching Chemistry to Nam's class since grade 10, teacher Nguyen Thi Thom saw the perseverance and hard work in this student. Through the process of teaching and correcting Nam's lessons in class, she realized that Nam was a very intelligent student.

The main difficulty Nam encountered was due to lack of knowledge and not having a suitable learning method. With the guidance of his teacher, by the end of the first semester, Nam had started to catch up with his friends and found joy in Chemistry.
The most surprising thing was that when the school started recruiting students to form a team of excellent students, Nam was the one who proactively called her to ask to join. In fact, Nam did not only ask for Chemistry but also called many other teachers to challenge his ability.
Although Nam’s results were modest in the early days, his “boldness” made teacher Nguyen Thi Thom feel interested. She also saw the determination of this “special” student.
Teacher Nguyen Thi Thom said: In our school, the student intake is often not high and creating a source for the excellent student team is difficult. In the process of establishing the team, our first criteria is that there must be love, passion and determination. This seems to have converged in Le Quang Nam.
Don't be afraid to aim high
Before returning to Chemistry, Le Quang Nam had a special memory in this subject when he accidentally watched the movie Dr Stone. The animated film in the science fiction genre tells the story of all humans being turned to stone.
Faced with the destruction of an entire civilization created by the stone world, Senku - a young boy with the ability to research science - decided to use the power of science, including the power of Chemistry to revive the entire world.

From the meaningful journey in this film, Nam realized that Chemistry is not only a dry subject with lots of data and formulas, but also has practical uses in life.
Later, when he started to study and love Chemistry, Nam also studied Chemistry by connecting with reality and trying to apply the knowledge in books to solve highly applicable exercises. In addition, during the learning process, Nam also trained himself to be disciplined, diligent, and serious with himself. He also always set himself the determination not to let down his teachers and family.

During the time I was in the gifted student team, I always felt pressured. However, I did not consider this a burden. On the contrary, it motivated me to work harder.
Moreover, after failing the Provincial Excellent Student Competition in grade 9, I wanted to do better, to strive to move from the Encouragement Prize to a prize with a number...
Before coming toProvincial excellent student exam grade 12Nam shared that he set a goal for himself to win first prize. As for teacher Nguyen Thi Thom, when she heard this story, she was not surprised. Because, in the qualifying rounds, Nam's performance was always stable and he had won first prize in the school's excellent student competition.
During his studies and exam preparation, Nam always showed himself to be a progressive student. When he finished a lesson or didn't understand how to do it, he would patiently sit down with his teacher until he really understood it.
Nam is also a diligent student, always following the lesson plan that the teacher has set and never letting her worry about not knowing the lesson or not doing the homework. Nam also has a very special way of studying, which is that he practices a lot. Difficult and strange questions, the teacher teaches and solves in class, he always does them again at night to master the method and get used to many different types of questions.
With this solid foundation, he entered the Provincial Excellent Student Competition with a relaxed mindset and completed his exam with a very high score of 18.25 points. He was also the only candidate to win First Prize in Chemistry Group B and was also the valedictorian of the subject.

Along with Le Quang Nam, in this year's Provincial Excellent Student Competition, the Chemistry team of Que Phong High School brought a successful competition season when 5/5 contestants won prizes with 1 First Prize, 3 Second Prizes and 1 Third Prize, ranked first in Group B and was in the top of the province's Chemistry subject. In the past 10 years, Nam is also the first student to bring the title of Valedictorian in Chemistry to the school.
I think this is a worthy reward for both teacher and student, the result after days of hard work and dedication.
On the school side, we acknowledge the dedication and responsibility of teacher Nguyen Thi Thom - who never gives up and always strives for her students.
The students, although many of them are in difficult circumstances, have constantly tried to bring high achievements for themselves and for the school.
This will also be a premise, a solid first step for students to have more motivation and achieve even better results in their final year of school.
