Covid-19: US 'turns the tide' to become the number 1 country, Spain surpasses Italy in number of deaths
Spain has a record number of deaths in a single day, surpassing Italy, while the US tops the rankings for Covid-19 cases.
According to the Worldometers data statistics page, in the past 24 hours, the number of deaths due to Covid-19 worldwide increased to 23,967 cases and 529,059 cases. Notably, the Worldometers rankings have undergone a sudden change.

Most of the world's deaths are concentrated in Europe. Italy has the highest number of deaths in the world at 8,215. There are currently 198 countries and territories with Covid-19 cases.
InEurope, Italyremains the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic, while other countries such as Spain, France, and the UK have also seen a sharp increase in deaths. Nine European leaders, including French President Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, have sent a letter to the European Union (EU) calling for joint action to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.
ItalyOn March 26, 712 more deaths and 6,203 new infections were recorded, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 8,215 out of a total of 57,786 infections. The optimistic sign is that the number of recovered cases has exceeded the number of deaths with 10,361 cases. Italy has announced new, stronger sanctions to prevent the spread of Covid-19, including applying prison sentences to those who deliberately violate quarantine regulations.
SpainSpain has also become a Covid-19 “hot spot” as the number of deaths in the day surpassed Italy with 718 cases. Thus, Spain now has 4,365 cases out of 57,786 people infected. Spain imposed a blockade and declared a state of emergency nationwide on March 13. The country’s top health official, Fernando Simon, predicted that the peak of the epidemic has not yet occurred and the number of infected cases will continue to increase in the coming days. The blockade will last 15 days, but Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said the state of emergency could be extended for another 14 days. Health Minister Salvador Illa said the government had agreed to buy masks, test kits, gloves and ventilators worth a total of $46 million from China and that shipments would be delivered from this weekend.

Chinahas asked airlines to drastically cut the number of domestic and international flights due to concerns that the increase in imported Covid-19 cases could trigger a second wave of the Covid-19 epidemic. As of now, China has recorded 3,287 deaths out of a total of 81,258 cases./.
