Coal supply for thermal power plants facing difficulties, EVN calls for electricity saving
(Baonghean.vn) - To proactively respond to the risk of affecting electricity supply from electricity users, EVN calls on people and electricity customers to implement electricity saving measures...
Based on the aggregated data updated to March 30, 2022, the coal supply situation for thermal power plants (TPPs) of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) continues to face many difficulties and is in great shortage compared to the signed coal supply contract. In the first quarter of 2022, the total volume of coal supplied to EVN's PPs was 4.49 million tons out of a total of 5.85 million tons according to the signed contract (corresponding to the ratio76.76%). Thus, the amount of coal supplied was 1.36 million tons short of the contracted volume.

Thermal power plants cannot operate at full capacity due to a shortage of coal for electricity production. |
Although coal suppliers (Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group and Dong Bac Corporation) have made great efforts to overcome difficulties in exploiting coal from domestic mines and importing coal for blending, information from Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group and Dong Bac Corporation said that the coal supply situation will continue to face many difficulties in the coming time. Thus, the risk of coal shortage leading to electricity shortage from April onwards is very real.
In the coming time, especially during the peak heat of the dry season in 2022, coal-fired electricity production will play a very important role in ensuring electricity supply, especially in April, May, June and July in the Northern region.
To proactively respond to the risk of affecting the power supply from the power users, EVN calls on people and power customers to implement power saving measures such as: turning off unnecessary electrical equipment, avoiding using many electrical equipment during peak hours, using air conditioners reasonably, etc. to help reduce difficulties in power sources. EVN hopes to receive the sharing of power customers./.
