(Baonghean) - Hoang Mai town is organizing a large-scale campaign: "All people join hands to support the construction and repair of houses for 126/126 poor households in the town". In just a short time, billions of VND in support have been transferred. The town has also started construction of the first houses in the joy of poor families.

Multiply the spirit of mutual love and support

In early June, Hoang Mai town started building houses for Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan (born in 1962) and Ms. Nguyen Thi Duyen (born in 1957), both residing in Quynh Vinh commune. These are two extremely difficult circumstances. Although they are both old, they are still living in temporary, cramped houses. Their income from farming is not much, and their health is not good, so they never dare to think about a solid house.

They were the first people to receive support of 50 million VND from the fund in the campaign to eliminate temporary, dilapidated houses launched by the town, along with the joint efforts and contributions of the commune, hamlet, and many benefactors to build solid, sturdy houses.

These are also 2 of 126 poor and near-poor households in Hoang Mai town with degraded houses or no houses at all that will be supported to build new ones or repair them through a campaign that people jokingly call the "one two six" campaign. Throughout 10 communes and wards of the young town in Nghe An province, the spirit of "mutual love and support", "the healthy leaves cover the torn leaves" is spreading widely from the Party Committee, the government, unions to the people, organizations and businesses like that.

Quynh Phuong Ward currently has more than 4,000 households with nearly 20,000 people. With the strength of seafaring and logistics services for fishing and tourism, by the end of 2018, the ward still had 74 poor households (1.9%), 136 near-poor households (3.6%). Of which, 18 households had degraded houses, even Mr. Hoang Duc Thuyet's household, who is near-poor, had no house.

Responding to the town's meaningful campaign, since May 2019, the ward has launched and called for support for cadres, party members and people to join hands and contribute to help the above 18 households. The Party Secretary and Chairman of the Ward People's Committee each donated 1 million VND; members of the Standing Committee, Vice Chairmen of the Ward People's Committee and heads of mass organizations donated 500,000 VND, and cadres and civil servants donated 2 working days.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong - Secretary of the Quynh Phuong Ward Party Committee said that when they learned about the significance of the campaign, officials and people were very sympathetic, with some families even donating more than ten million VND. Those actions have multiplied the spirit of mutual support and assistance among local people.

For example, the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Huu and Ms. Phan Thi Huong in Tan Phong block, were also previously near-poor households. Recently, they were lucky enough to win a car when buying a product from a brand, they did not hesitate to donate the prize to support a very meaningful program.

“Our goal is to try to mobilize 400 million VND, and together with support from the town and businesses to eliminate temporary and degraded houses for the people.”

The Secretary of the Quynh Phuong Ward Party Committee also added that construction of 3 new houses will begin in the near future, striving to inaugurate them on the occasion of National Day, September 2 this year.

Previously, on the morning of May 19, on the anniversary of Uncle Ho's birthday, Hoang Mai town organized a launching ceremony to support the elimination of dilapidated and makeshift houses for poor and near-poor households in the area with the presence of leaders of communes and wards; secretaries of 132 party cells, hamlets, nearly 200 businesses and representatives of 19 poor households.

Here, organizations, individuals, and businesses have registered to support more than 4.3 billion VND/6.5 billion VND target. The first 19 poor households have also been given 50 million VND/household to build new houses. The total amount of support to date has reached more than 5 billion VND. According to the assessment of the Head of the Propaganda Department of Hoang Mai City Party Committee, there has never been a campaign that has spread, received great support, and quickly entered life like this campaign.

The town established a Steering Committee to eliminate dilapidated and makeshift houses for poor and near-poor households in 2019, headed by the Town Party Secretary. Communes and wards established grassroots steering committees to implement the campaign for poor and near-poor households in the area.

Open letter from the Secretary of the City Party Committee

To launch the above meaningful movement, Mr. Vo Van Dung - Secretary of the Town Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Hoang Mai town sent an Open Letter to the Party Committee, government, agencies, organizations, enterprises, cadres, party members, people in the town; children of Hoang Mai hometown living and working all over the country and around the world.

Through many channels, especially social networks, the letter of more than 700 words containing profound humanistic meaning, demonstrating the leadership's concern for poor and near-poor households so that "no one is left behind" has spread, moving many people to join hands and contribute.

“...I call on cadres, party members, civil servants, public employees, businesses, all people, as well as kind-hearted individuals inside and outside the town, Hoang Mai children far from home, to spare some of their income to provide practical material and spiritual support, join hands with the town to build Great Solidarity houses for poor and near-poor households, help people settle down, thereby improving their lives...”.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Van - Head of the Propaganda Department of Hoang Mai City Party Committee said: "The Standing Committee of the City Party Committee has issued an implementation plan, conducted a specific review in 10 wards and communes and made a specific list. We set a goal in 2019 to basically eliminate all dilapidated and makeshift houses for poor and near-poor households in the area."

This is a practical work to implement Directive 05 of the Politburo in 2019 with the theme "Building awareness of respecting people, promoting democracy, caring for people's lives according to Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style", commemorating the 50th anniversary of implementing President Ho Chi Minh's Testament (1969 - 2019) and the last letter he sent to the Party Executive Committee of Nghe An province (July 21, 1969 - July 21, 2019) of Hoang Mai town.

The support level for house repair is at least 30 million VND/house, and for new construction is at least 50 million VND/house. In addition to the above support level, the Town People's Committee works with the Social Policy Bank to create conditions for poor households to borrow more money to repair and build houses at preferential rates (maximum 25 million VND/household, interest rate 3%/year, loan term within 10 years).
