Long Literature exam, many candidates 'regret'

At the examination site of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted (Vinh City), after leaving the examination room, many candidates expressed surprise at this year's exam. Therefore, instead of studying the poem "Dat Nuoc", the candidates predicted the poem "Viet Bac" and memorized quite a lot.
Candidate Phan Nhat Linh - grade 12 English major, with the advantage of being a candidate of block D, said that this year's essay test is not too difficult but is quite long. Therefore, with only 120 minutes, candidates must concentrate highly to complete the test in the best way.

In addition to the literature essay question, Nhat Linh said she quite liked the reading comprehension question when the exam asked for excerpts from the article “The River and the Generations of the Country” by writer Nguyen Quang Thieu. Accordingly, the question required the author to reflect on “If we separate each drop of water from the unity of the ocean, we will only see small, lonely drops of water that gradually disappear” to draw lessons about lifestyle for oneself.

According to this female student, people, no matter what era they live in, need to respect the past and the cultural values of the nation. Therefore, as young people, although approaching modern life, they still need to reconcile with the past and know how to filter in order to perfect themselves in the best way. In addition, each person also needs to live for everyone, not be individualistic or selfish.
On this analytical line, this female student also said that she did quite well on the social discussion question when the exam required her to present her thoughts on the meaning of respecting individuality. According to Nhat Linh, the issue of "individuality of young people" is causing a lot of controversy and conflicting opinions in reality. Each person has their own ego. Many people, especially the previous generation, who hold many traditional concepts, will not like young people to express their ego. However, individuality does not mean bad, each person is an individual, can be different in the way they dress, their lifestyle and want people to respect their differences. In addition, this candidate also said that many professions need individuality such as artists, designers, etc.

Before this exam, Phan Nhat Linh had been announced to be admitted to the Foreign Trade University, the University of Foreign Affairs and Law. Although he took the exam with a relaxed mentality, he was still determined to achieve 27-28 points in the High School Graduation Exam.
Meanwhile, candidate Pham Anh Tuan - Hermann Gmeiner High School said: This year's exam was suitable for candidates and in the current period, the exam about the country is completely suitable. Personally, I like this year's exam when it mentions love and national unity. I am also quite impressed with the social argument because the question is quite new. Respecting differences is also suitable for today's youth.

Present at the exam site of Anh Son 3 High School, most candidates leaving the exam room felt comfortable and assessed that the Literature exam was within their ability.
Nguyen Thi Thuy Ngan happily shared: This year's Literature exam is quite basic, suitable for everyone, revolving around key knowledge, closely following the content of the High School Literature program and has been thoroughly reviewed by teachers. With this year's exam, as long as you review carefully and have your own experiences, you can get high scores. For me, this is my strong subject, so I did very well and am confident that I can get 8 to 9 points.

Meanwhile, candidate Nguyen Thi Phuong Anh, who took the exam at Anh Son 1 High School, said she felt relaxed and comfortable after finishing the first exam. This year's exam was not too difficult, and she did quite well in both the reading comprehension and writing sections.
In the reading comprehension section, the level of cognition is arranged from recognition, understanding, application to high application. In the literary essay section, the work "Country" by Nguyen Khoa Diem is a work that I have studied carefully so I did quite well on the test. Although Literature is not my forte, I found the essay topic to be within my ability and very interesting. The cool weather today also helped me to avoid psychological and pressure.

At the Thai Hoa High School exam site, after 120 minutes of taking the test, candidate Le Van Hieu shared: "When I held the exam in my hand, I felt secure because this morning's Literature exam was within the content that the teachers had given me to review. The writing section alone had 2 questions, and I could do the 5-point writing section basically. I am taking the D block exam and want to enter the National Economics University, so I predict my Literature score will be around 7 - 7.5 points."
As for candidate Mai Thi Tuyet - Student, Dong Hieu High School said: "The reading comprehension part is quite easy, the questions are close to reality, suitable for my ability. I was impressed with question 1 of the writing part about writing a paragraph presenting my thoughts on the meaning of respecting individuality. I find this question very meaningful because I can relate to myself, expressing my opinion, respecting others, behaving properly, valuing the honor, dignity and rights of each person. At the same time, I must know how to live in harmony, love everyone; Respect everyone around me, regardless of status, wealth or ethnic skin color. I take the B exam, my wish is to enter the University of Medicine and Pharmacy - Hue University, so I do not set a goal of getting a good score in Literature, but with this exam, I am confident that I can get a good score".
Teachers predict many candidates will get good scores.

Commenting on the Literature exam, teacher Nguyen Thi Nhung - Literature teacher at Thai Hoa High School assessed that this year's exam was relatively suitable for candidates, especially the reading comprehension and social discussion questions, which are topics close to students, talking about personal opinions and the awareness of young people. However, the exam is still safe, not groundbreaking. The exam style still follows the basic structure of recent years.
“Regarding the overall score, it is difficult to predict because it depends on each student's ability, however, with some questions at the beginning of the test, I think most of the students will get a good score,” Ms. Nhung added.
After 2 hours of taking the Literature exam, the first candidates to leave the exam site at Nguyen Sy Sach High School - Thanh Chuong all felt excited.

Nguyen Dinh Nhat Quang, an excellent student in class 12C1, said: I found today's Literature exam to be within my ability. I did the best in the reading comprehension section, and the social commentary section about respecting individuality was the most difficult. Although I didn't focus on reviewing Literature, I felt I did quite well on the test and expected to get around 8 points.
For Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh, a 12th grade student of C2, the Literature exam was quite good, close to the general education program. “I did quite well in the reading comprehension and analysis of the poem “Country” excerpted from the long poem “Aspirational Road” by Nguyen Khoa Diem, but the social commentary on respecting individuality was not so good. I hope to get an 8 on my exam. I feel happy and ready for the next exam.”
The literature topic is familiar but difficult to get high scores, that is the opinion of many candidates after the literature exam of the 2024 National High School Exam this morning at the Con Cuong High School exam site.

Candidate Luong Ngoc Huyen, a self-study candidate at Con Cuong High School, said that although it is easy to get an average score in this Literature test, it is difficult to get a high score.
Commenting on the reading comprehension section (3 points), with an excerpt from “The River and Generations of Water”, Ngoc Huyen said that this was a good question. However, if a candidate has a rote learning method, lacks life skills and has limited social knowledge, it will be difficult to present and answer all the requirements of the question. In this section, I hope to only get 1.5 points.
As for the writing section, there are 2 questions. In the 5-point writing question, candidate Ngoc Huyen commented: “Analyze the excerpt Country (Excerpt from the epic poem Mat duong khat vong) by poet Nguyen Khoa Diem, from there comment on the combination of emotions and thoughts of Nguyen Khoa Diem expressed in the poem. This is a pretty good question, close to our curriculum. However, this is a rather difficult question. For those who follow the social sciences, they can do better, but for those who follow the natural sciences, I think the question requires a rather long analysis, so it is difficult to get a high score, especially for those who are subjective or do not have a deep understanding of the work. I can do this question basically. In general, I think I will get an average score for the first exam.”

The weather was quite favorable for the candidates of Do Luong in the first exam session. Walking out of the exam room with a radiant face, happily greeting relatives in the school yard, Le Duc Huy - a student of class 12T3 of Do Luong 1 High School said: "The Literature exam this morning was quite suitable for students, I did well on this exam, expected to get 8.5 to 9 points".

Similarly, candidate Le Thi Kim Quy - a student of class 12T1 happily said: "This year's Literature exam was within my ability, I did very well, my classmates also asked for a second and third sheet of paper to do the test. For the reading comprehension test, there was no structure with a main method of expression but asked directly to the problem; the social argumentation question raised the meaning of respecting individuality; the literature argumentation question was the correct "Country" - one of the two lessons I studied carefully last night."

At the Quy Chau High School exam site, out of a total of 535 candidates taking the exam, there were 487 12th graders in the High School system, 20 12th graders in the Continuing Education system and 28 independent candidates arranged to take the exam in 23 rooms.
After finishing the Literature exam, contestant Phan Thuy Tien - a student at Quy Chau High School said: "I found the exam structure quite similar to the mock exams and I was able to do about 80%."

According to the assessment of Ms. Nguyen Trang Nhung - Literature teacher - Quy Chau High School: "This year's high school Literature exam has a familiar structure and question format, so I think it did not make it difficult for most candidates. The exam has good integration, the reading comprehension part focuses on the relationship between individuals and groups.

Through this, candidates can see the importance of solidarity, the sustainable and cohesive relationship between individuals will create strength for a collective.
For the writing section, the topic selects very good excerpts, rich in literature, intelligence and lyricism, ensuring that candidates can demonstrate their thinking and knowledge. Candidates with a broader understanding and in-depth analysis of the content will achieve a good score or higher.
According to the Department of Education and Training, at the Nghe An examination council, in the first Literature exam, there were 36,476 candidates registered to take the exam. The total number of candidates absent without reason: 51 students.
No candidates violated the exam regulations. No other unusual incidents occurred. The exam took place normally, safely, and in accordance with regulations.
