(Baonghean.vn) - Up to now, African swine fever has invaded 11 wards and communes in Vinh City, forcing the city to destroy a record number of pigs.

To date, Vinh City has had 11 wards and communes infected with African swine fever, with 248 households recording pigs testing positive for the disease.

Localities with the epidemic include: Nghi Lien, Nghi Kim, Hung Dong, Dong Vinh, Hung Chinh, Cua Nam, Vinh Tan, Hung Dung, Nghi Duc, Nghi Phu and Nghi An.

It is worth mentioning that this re-epidemic is very large in scale and extremely complicated, difficult to control. The number of pigs destroyed is many times higher than the previous outbreak. Specifically, in the first outbreak lasting nearly 3 months (from June 1 to August 19), 6 wards and communes were affected, the number of pigs destroyed was 150, the total weight destroyed was 10,049 kg (over 10 tons).

The total number of pigs destroyed in the city reached 1,845, with a total destroyed weight of 125,477 kg (over 125 tons), 12 times higher than the previous outbreak.

Currently, the epidemic is developing very complicatedly and there is a risk of "breaking out" of control in Nghi Kim, Hung Chinh, Hung Dong communes... almost every day there are sick and dead pigs in these localities.

It can be seen that African swine fever has now surrounded most of the suburban areas of the city. Some communes such as Hung Loc, Hung Hoa... although there is no epidemic yet, must raise the highest warning level because neighboring localities have been invaded by the epidemic.

The reason for the outbreak is the impact of the recent floods, which caused water sources containing pathogens to enter suburban areas. In addition, the epidemic prevention and control work in some wards and communes is still in a coping nature, with the sale of pork offal on the roadside and sidewalks and people feeding pigs with garbage water, although this is one of the prohibitions when the epidemic is happening.
