Vietnam Airlines flight VN1718 from Vinh to Hanoi on the afternoon of September 7 will have to reschedule to ensure passenger safety to avoid storm number 3.

To respond to storm No. 3 (Yagi), the Civil Aviation Authority has directed the temporary suspension of take-off and landing operations at 4 airports including: Van Don, Cat Bi, Noi Bai and Tho Xuan for a certain period of time.

Specifically, on September 7, Noi Bai airport will stop landing and take-off from 10:00 to 21:00; Van Don airport will temporarily stop operations from 4:00 to 16:00; Cat Bi airport will stop operations from 5:00 to 16:00; Tho Xuan airport will stop operations from 12:00 to 22:00.

Of the four airports mentioned above, Noi Bai Airport is currently operating two direct flights from Vinh to Hanoi every day. The temporary suspension of Noi Bai Airport will affect the travel schedule of Nghe An people when going to Hanoi and vice versa.

Specifically, on September 7, there were two direct flights from Vinh to Hanoi by Vietnam Airlines, coded VN1716 and VN1718. Flight VN1716 took off from Vinh airport at 7:30 am and landed at Noi Bai at 8:25 am, not during Noi Bai airport's closing hours, so the flight still operated normally.

However, flight VN1718 departing from Vinh airport at 6:30 p.m. and arriving at Noi Bai at 7:25 p.m., is during Noi Bai airport's temporary closure period, so it will not depart as planned.

Mr. Nghiem Manh Tuan - Director of Vinh International Airport said: Flight VN1718 has been announced to reschedule, accordingly it will depart from Vinh at 23:55 on September 7 and arrive at Noi Bai at 00:50 on September 8 (5 hours later). This is a mandatory plan to ensure safety for passengers avoiding storm No. 3.

Currently, Vinh airport and Vietnam Airlines have also notified all passengers with tickets on flight VN1718 about the change in flight time so that people can arrange their schedules appropriately.

Anticipating the possibility of heavy rain at Noi Bai airport after the storm, which will cause a high density of take-offs and landings, the Civil Aviation Authority has asked airlines to add extra fuel reserves for flights between 9 p.m. on September 7 and 2 a.m. on September 8 to prevent having to wait and divert to an alternate airport.

In case Noi Bai airport can be put into operation early, the aviation meteorological agency needs to report promptly to adjust the airport opening and closing time accordingly.
