According to the police, the car crashed through the first glass doors of the Willy Brandt building, the headquarters of the SPD party. At that time, the car was loaded with gasoline cans and mini gas cylinders.
The building’s fire suppression system promptly extinguished the fire after the crash. The man was rushed to the hospital. Fortunately, no one else was injured in the incident.
Authorities said the man was over 58 years old, but did not reveal his identity or the reason why he chose to drive into the headquarters of the SPD party, where negotiations to form a coalition government with Chancellor Angela Merkel's party were about to take place.
Police and security agencies are expanding their investigation into the incident.
