Praised by Cong Vinh in his autobiography, Coach Huu Thang remains humble
Expressing disappointment with some seniors and icons of Vietnamese football in his autobiography “Minute 89”, Cong Vinh always considered Nguyen Huu Thang as his big brother. As for Huu Thang, the former coach of the Vietnamese national team did not comment on Cong Vinh’s opinion.
In his autobiography “Minute 89” published a few weeks ago, Cong Vinh mentioned the passage: “Life is not like I thought. More precisely, Le Huynh Duc is not like I thought” (Chapter 6 – page 69).
“Before, I thought that Duc hated me. Now I… have no more doubts. He really hates me. And Le Huynh Duc was not the only senior who hated me during those days” – Cong Vinh added on page 70, also in chapter 6.

Cong Vinh always considers Huu Thang as his big brother in his career. |
Expressing disappointment with Huynh Duc, Cong Vinh always considered Huu Thang as his big brother in his career. Also in his autobiography “Minute 89”, Cong Vinh at least twice praised the role of coach Nguyen Huu Thang.
The first time was when Huu Thang, as coach of SL Nghe An team, won the JVC Cup at My Dinh Stadium right before the 22nd SEA Games in 2003. Thanks to his successful performance, becoming the top scorer of that tournament, Le Cong Vinh was rewarded with a "survival" spot to join the U23 Vietnam team to attend the SEA Games that same year.
The second time was when Cong Vinh revealed in his autobiography that he was one of the people who advised Mr. Hien to choose coach Nguyen Huu Thang to lead Hanoi FC to replace coach Trieu Quang Ha in 2009, at the time when Hanoi T&T was at the bottom of the V-League rankings after the first leg.
Highly appreciated by Cong Vinh, always seeing himself as an older brother worth learning from, but coach Nguyen Huu Thang is still modest: "The fact that Vinh highly appreciates me is from Vinh's personal perspective, I have no comment on this."
"As for comments about me, I think others can ask the players or famous people at Song Lam Nghe An for more complete and objective information" - Coach Nguyen Huu Thang added.
The former national team head coach also appeared moderate when discussing Le Cong Vinh's autobiography, which is facing many reactions from the football world: "I don't want to talk much about that autobiography. Each person has a different point of view, a different perspective. Vinh has his perspective, others have theirs."
