Nearly 500 tons of green vegetables of Nghe An farmers were 'rescued'

On March 7, cadres and union members in Dien Loc commune (Dien Chau) traveled nearly 30 km to the vegetable fields of Dien Phong commune to harvest and "rescue" cabbage for people who were in a situation of good harvest and low price. After a day of hard work, the Youth Union of Dien Loc commune purchased over 6 tons of cabbage for the people of Dien Phong.

Ms. Cao Thi Phuong, an official of the People's Committee of Dien Loc commune, said: "After receiving information that hundreds of tons of cabbage from Dien Phong commune were unsold, we held a meeting, contributed funds and decided to harvest and sell part of the cabbage for the people. Two years ago, Dien Loc commune was also in a similar situation when dozens of tons of cucumbers were also unsold. Dien Phong commune also helped us a lot, so we are very grateful and want to contribute a small part to accompany Dien Phong people to overcome this difficult period."

It is known that not only Dien Loc commune but also in recent days, many units, organizations and unions inside and outside the province have also carried outrescueCabbage for people of Dien Phong commune.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Van, a resident of Dien Phong commune, excitedly said: "Since Tet, our people have been extremely worried because the cabbage has reached harvest time but there are no traders to buy it like in previous years. People have to sell it at a low price but still cannot sell it, so they have to leave it in the fields. Luckily, there are young union members and organizations that come to help people harvest and transport it for consumption. We are very happy and grateful...".

By the end of March 7, 18 units had participated in rescuing cabbage for farmers in the commune. The total weight rescued was estimated at500 tons, accounting for 50% of the remaining, unsold cabbage in the area (estimated at 1,000 tons). Notably, among them are local children working in Ho Chi Minh City who have purchased 150 tons of cabbage for the people.
