Nearly 75 billion VND donated to support 'Tet for the poor - Canh Ty 2020' in Nghe An

On the evening of January 4, in Vinh city, the Provincial Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province organized the program "Tet for the poor - Canh Ty 2020".

Humanistic program

The program is an activity to commend and honor agencies, units, businesses, entrepreneurs and philanthropists who have shared and helped poor people to celebrate a warm and happy traditional New Year.

Closing 2019, with the efforts of Party committees at all levels, authorities and people in the province, the enthusiastic support of the business community, organizations and individuals, the province's poverty reduction work has achieved many positive results. The total resources mobilized to implement the poverty reduction program in the province reached over 3,600 billion VND.

The amount of money donated to the Fund and activities for the poor alone reached more than 100 billion VND, supporting tens of thousands of poor and near-poor households in terms of livelihood, repairing and building new houses, medical treatment, education, contributing to reducing the poverty rate from 5.54% at the end of 2018 to 4%.

Hunger eradication and poverty reduction have become a widespread movement, rich in humanity with many noble gestures and charitable deeds, carried out jointly by organizations and individuals inside and outside the province.

However, in 2019, many localities in the province were severely affected by natural disasters, storms, floods, epidemics, etc., making people's lives, especially in mountainous areas, border areas, remote areas, coastal areas, still facing difficulties, with the risk of poverty and re-poverty continuing.

Up to now, the whole province still has more than 41,000 poor households and more than 75,000 near-poor households. At this time, when everyone and every family is preparing to welcome the Lunar New Year of Canh Ty 2020, many unfortunate lives still have to worry about every meal and piece of clothing, not daring to think about a full Tet, needing the joint help of the community and society.

Belief in spread

With the good moral tradition of "Love others as you love yourself" of the nation and the respect for the people of Nghe An, in recent years, through the program "Tet for the poor", the province has called for more than 287 billion VND to take care of Tet for hundreds of thousands of poor people in the province.

In the 2019 Lunar New Year alone, the whole province mobilized 73.7 billion VND to support Tet for the poor, giving gifts to 101,796 households, including 51,949 poor households and 49,847 near-poor households, policy families, and social protection beneficiaries; each gift was worth an average of 500,000 VND.

Launching the response to support Tet for the poor in Canh Ty 2020, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Thai Thanh Quy stated: "At today's meaningful program, on behalf of the provincial leaders, I call on all levels, sectors, businesses, philanthropists, organizations, individuals inside and outside the province... to continue to support and help the poor with the highest spirit. Together with the Party Committee and the provincial government, "join hands for the poor - Leave no one behind", especially during the Tet holiday; continue to take practical actions, contribute more positively to the province's sustainable poverty reduction work.

With the humanistic value of life "giving love will receive love", each heart and gift, no matter how small, will contribute to helping the poor reduce their burden of worries, overcome difficulties and rise up in life, so that each person and each family can celebrate the Lunar New Year Canh Ty 2020 more happily and warmly".

As of the night of January 4 - the time after the end of the live broadcast of the program "Tet for the poor - Canh Ty 2020", the Organizing Committee had received nearly 75 billion VND from 325 units, agencies, organizations, businesses and philanthropists.

According to the plan, Tet gifts for the poor in the year of Canh Ty have been, are being and will be given directly or through the Fatherland Front at all levels to poor households by businesses, groups and individuals.
