Scallion prices in Quynh Luu hit record high
(Baonghean.vn) - At this time, the price of green onions in the coastal areas of Quynh Luu district has increased the most in the year, reaching 15,000 - 18,000 VND/kg. However, people are not very excited because the yield of green onions is low, due to the impact of floods.

This season, Ms. Ho Thi Hong's family in Hamlet 7, Quynh Minh Commune (Quynh Luu) planted 3 sao of green onions. Ms. Hong said: On this occasion, the harvested green onions are purchased by traders right at the field, the current selling price is 15,000 VND/kg; a few days ago, the price of onions reached 18,000 VND/kg, the highest this year - this price has been maintained for about 15 days.
However, Ms. Hong said that although the price of onions is quite high, the income of growers is not high because the yield is low. Due to the impact of recent storms, continuous rain has damaged the green onions, rotted the leaves, the plants are small, the yield is only 5 quintals/sao/batch (while the normal yield is 1.5 tons/sao/batch). With the current selling price, although high, the income of onion growers is only approximately the same as previous onion crops.
Quynh Luong Commune has the largest area of land for growing vegetables in the coastal area of Quynh Luu District, with nearly 200 hectares. Mr. Nguyen Van Tue - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: Currently, local farmers grow about 70 hectares of green onions, of which up to 1/3 of the area is damaged due to prolonged heavy rain. The price of green onions is increasing, so growers are actively harvesting and selling to traders. As soon as they harvest, people will start planting new crops. After the next onion crop, people will switch to growing winter vegetables.

Mr. Dau Duc Nam - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district said: The area of scallion in the communes of the coastal area of the locality is currently about 150 hectares. The reason for the sharp increase in the price of scallion in the past few days is due to the continuous rainy weather due to the influence of storms No. 3 and No. 4, causing many areas to have rotten leaves and damage; the amount of onions supplied to the market has decreased.
The price of green onions is at an unprecedented high, so at this time, many households growing onions in the coastal areas of Quynh Luu district are harvesting and preparing new land for planting, with the hope that onion prices will remain stable for the next few months.
