How to call correctly
(Baonghean.vn) - Several decades ago, the Government agreed to call the people Mong or Mong ethnic group, replacing the previous name H'Mong. However, in many documents, papers, and even many press agencies, they still write and call them in the old way.
The story eventually reached the ears of the Government's Ethnic Committee.
The thing is, for a long time now, the Mong ethnic group has encountered many difficulties in identifying and writing their ethnic name on documents and administrative papers. When carrying out administrative procedures at the commune, district, and even provincial levels, in the section on ethnic identification, some people write “Ho Mong”, others write “H'Mong”, “Mong”… In short, it is a mess.

For the people - the subjects participating in administrative and civil activities, not everyone is "good" at the common language or can read and write the national language fluently. Many people also do not know how the officials write or say the name of their ethnic group. When the officials ask them to write "H'Mong", they write "H'Mong", when asked to write "Mong", they write "Mong".
It was only a few decades ago that the Government agreed to call the people Mong or Mong ethnic group, replacing the previous name H'Mong. However, in many documents, papers, and even many press agencies, they still write and call them in the old way. In addition, many State officials who are responsible for handling and resolving administrative procedures do not understand the regulations on identification and names for the Mong ethnic group, which is why the above confusion occurs.
Also because of this, on May 10, the Government's Ethnic Committee conductedsurvey, research and listenPeople's opinions. In Que Phong district - one of the localities with a large population of Mong people (nearly 3,900 people), leaders of the Ethnic Committee and the Ethnic Committee of Nghe An province found that most people suggested maintaining the Mong ethnic name as it has been for a long time. And this regulation needs to be unified from top to bottom, from administrative documents to daily behavior and communication. Thereby, it aims to end the confusion in documents and papers and avoid hurting people through the way of calling.
