The salty taste of salt seems out of place in the coffee filter, but it actually enhances the rich flavor, especially when enjoyed during the rainy season in Hue.

Although it was only born about 6 years ago, salt coffee is considered by the locals as a specialty coffee of Hue, similar to when people mention egg coffee of Hanoi. This strange combination of drinks has become a source of pride when introducing to tourists, because if you come to Hue and have not tried salt coffee, you cannot be said to have a good understanding of the rich cuisine of the ancient capital.

The simple aluminum coffee filters, without any visual stimulation, force people to pay more attention to the quality of the dripping coffee drops. Hue coffee is already fragrant, with an intoxicating bitter taste on the tip of the tongue, and with the addition of a layer of fatty fermented fresh milk and a bit of salty refined salt, just a whiff and you can feel a flavor that is unlike any other type of coffee.

Perhaps the creator of this strange coffee has used a little secret in cooking, which is adding a little salt to highlight the sweetness in the dish. Without any other flavorings or additives, salt helps to moderate the bitterness of the coffee and honor the sweet aroma of milk.

The trick in making salted coffee lies in the precise calculation of the proportions of the ingredients, not too sweet or fatty, not too salty, keeping the characteristic coffee flavor.

Drop each piece of ice into the cup, take small sips, the taste of coffee may make diners feel unfamiliar but the impression of it will last forever, the more you drink, the more addicted you are. The pace of life in Hue is not hurried, drinking a cup of salty coffee must be leisurely to fully feel the sophistication of the cuisine here.

Each cup of salt coffee costs only about 15,000 VND, and is best enjoyed at garden cafes. The first shop serving salt coffee is at 10 Nguyen Luong Bang, which is rated the best for its flavor. The second shop at 142 Dang Thai Than has invested more in space, and customers come to the shop not only to drink coffee but also to take photos.
