Hundreds of hectares of corn and peanuts in Do Luong burned to death due to the heat.
(Baonghean.vn) - The heat wave in recent days has burned more than 400 hectares of crops, mainly corn and peanuts, in Do Luong district. Farmers are regretful because there are only 15-20 days left until harvest.
In hamlet 10, Dai Son commune, the corn and peanut fields of farmers are yellow and dry from the scorching sun. With a sad face, Mr. Tran Van Ha looked out at the fields and said sadly: "My family grows 4 sao of peanuts and 6 sao of corn. We thought this crop would bring in a good income because we planted a lot. Who would have thought that the hot weather in the past few days has burned all the plants to death, and we consider it a total loss."

Sharing the same sorrow as Mr. Tran Van Ha, hundreds of other farmers are also heartbroken because their crop areas were scorched by the sun and burned to death.
Walking along the fields in the scorching afternoon sun, the entire corn crop was dyed a deep yellow, even the corn ears after being husked were scorched by the sun and dried out.
My family's nearly 4 acres of corn and peanuts had to be thrown away. If the storm or tornado causes the leaves to fall, we can take them home to feed the cattle, but if they are burnt yellow and dry like this, we can only throw them away. We must burn them quickly.
Currently, the entire Dai Son commune has 293.5 hectares of crops that have died due to the heat, including 152 hectares of peanuts, 135 hectares of corn, 6 hectares of rice, and 0.5 hectares of watermelon... The 152 hectares of peanuts alone are only about 20 days away from harvest, but because the stems have withered from the heat, they have to be discarded because the tubers are too young. Some hamlets that have suffered heavy damage are hamlets 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11.

Mr. Dang Van Yen - Chairman of the Commune Farmers' Association said that it is rare for there to be such intense sunshine like this year. Normally, this crop yields very high yields, but all of it was lost due to the heat.
Not only Dai Son commune, but also some other communes in Do Luong district such as Tru Son, Giang Son Tay, crops were also damaged due to the heat... In Tru Son commune, 115 hectares of crops were killed by the heat; of which 47 hectares were corn, 48 hectares were peanuts, 20 hectares were beans and vegetables. In Giang Son Tay commune, 40 hectares of corn were killed.
As of April 22, the heat has caused irreparable damage to more than 400 hectares of crops of farmers in Do Luong.
