Revealing the main cause of the shooting case in Vinh City
(Baonghean.vn) - After the incident, there was a lot of information that the cause of the incident was due to a conflict related to love. However, during the investigation, the police concluded that the motive for Dau Duc Thuan's crime was because he suspected that Mr. T. was not fair in their business dealings.
On September 26, 2022, the People's Court of Nghe An province brought defendant Dau Duc Thuan (born in 1984; residing in Tan Tien block, Hung Binh ward, Vinh city) to trial for the crimes of "murder" and "illegal possession and use of military weapons".
According to the indictment, due to conflicts and suspicions in business, Dau Duc Thuan had the intention of killing Nguyen Duc T. (born in 1973; residing in block 2, Quang Trung ward, Vinh city, Nghe An).
At about 8:00 a.m. on November 20, 2021, Dau Duc Thuan prepared a handbag containinggunK59 type with 7 bullets available, then drove the car with license plate 51H-85557 to the garment factory of 3T Nghe An Fashion Garment Joint Stock Company (at Cua Tien New Urban Area, Yen Giang block, Vinh Tan ward, Vinh city).

Here, Thuan asked Mr. Nguyen Van Nam (security guard of the garment factory) to look after his car and called a Mai Linh taxi to take him to a coffee shop on Dinh Cong Trang street (Quang Trung ward, Vinh city).
When he saw Mr. T. sitting and drinking coffee, Thuan approached, pointed the gun at Mr. T.'s chest, and fired a shot that hit the victim's left arm.
After the incident, the victim was taken to the emergency room. Forensic examination showed that Nguyen Duc T. suffered 55% physical damage due to the injury.
As for Dau Duc Thuan, he was arrested by the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Province while he was using the restroom at a restaurant in Vinh City.
Notably, during the investigation, the Nghe An Provincial Police Department found that Dau Duc Thuan showed signs of mental illness. According to the forensic psychiatric assessment conclusion of the North Central Institute of Forensic Psychiatry, at the time of assessment, Dau Duc Thuan suffered from mental and behavioral disorders due to excessive use of drugs and other psychoactive substances.
However, at the time of committing the crime, Dau Duc Thuan was capable of perceiving and controlling his behavior.
At the trial, the lawyer defending the rights of Mr. Nguyen Duc T. said that the defendant's actions caused damage to the victim's health and spirit. The fact that Mr. T. did not die was beyond the defendant's will. On the other hand, the information Thuan gave in the early stages of the investigation that he suspected Mr. T. and Thuan's wife had a romantic relationship was incorrect, which greatly affected the honor, reputation and dignity of Mr. T. as well as his family.
Victim Nguyen Duc T. requested civil compensation with a total amount of 265 million VND including treatment costs, compensation for mental damage, etc. Currently, Dau Duc Thuan has influenced the family to pay 40 million VND as civil compensation for the victim.

At the trial, the defendant confessed to using a gun to shoot the victim. The gun was purchased from a Laotian man during the time Thuan was doing business in Laos.
Considering the entire case and mitigating circumstances, the Trial Panel sentenced Dau Duc Thuan to 8 years and 6 months in prison for Murder, 1 year and 6 months in prison for “Illegal possession and use of military weapons”. In total, defendant Thuan must serve a sentence of 10 years in prison.
