The difficult situation of a veteran who has to support his bedridden wife and two seriously ill children

(Baonghean.vn) - The family of Mr. Tran Van Sau (82 years old) in Xuan Son hamlet, Bai Son commune, Do Luong district is the most disadvantaged in the commune. He has 3 children, all of whom are sick. Currently, he is the only one taking care of his bedridden wife and 2 mentally disabled children.

Through research, it is known that in his youth, Mr. Sau worked as a worker in Phu Quy, then joined the army in Quang Tri. In 1968, he married Ms. Ho Thi Che (born 1947), from Quynh Luu district. The couple had 3 children together.

Mr. Tran Van Sau is a veteran of the anti-American war.

It was thought that family life would go on peacefully, but unexpectedly, when the couple's children grew up, they all fell ill one by one. Mr. Tran Van Luu (born in 1970), was born with a tongue-tie. When he grew up, he was absent-minded, foolish, and could not speak clearly.

Tran Van Son (born in 1981) was born healthy and normal, a famous smart boy in the area. After finishing high school, he took the entrance exam to the Biology Department of Tay Nguyen University with high scores. After graduating, he was accepted to work at a high school in Lam Dong. However, after only half a year of teaching, he suddenly fell ill. He returned to his hometown like a soulless person, spoke little, often wandered around, sometimes broke things, even beat his parents...

The youngest son, Tran Van Tra (born in 1985), was also healthy, diligent, and studious. After completing his military service, he went to the South to work as a bodyguard at an electronics company in Ho Chi Minh City. Just like his brother, after working for nearly a year, Tra fell ill and often had fits of vandalism and beating people.

Feeling sorry for their three sons, Mr. Sau and his wife cried their eyes out, borrowed money from relatives and neighbors, and took their children to mental hospitals for treatment many times. However, God did not have mercy on them. The more they treated their sons, the more their illnesses became worse.

The silly eldest son of Mr. Sau and his wife

Mr. Tran Van Tra - the youngest son, passed away in 2016 after falling ill at the Provincial Social Protection Center located in Giang Son Dong commune (Do Luong).

The pain of losing his son had not yet subsided. Not long after, Mr. Che fell and broke his shoulder and leg, and could not walk. Every day, Mr. Sau had to take care of his wife and keep an eye on his son, because when his second son "lost his temper", he would beat both his parents.

Because their son was crazy, yelling and destroying everything, the two of them could not live in their own house, but had to go to their brother's house to live. At first, they lived in two different houses, she lived in her brother-in-law's house, he lived in the family patriarch's house.

In recent years, the two of them have been living together. The old woman is now bedridden and has to rely on relatives for all her daily activities. The eldest son has also had to go live with another family to avoid being beaten by his younger brother.

In Mr. Sau’s old, dilapidated house, only his second son still lives. Located right on the side of the village road, the house looks heartbreakingly desolate. The gate is always open, but no one dares to enter because of fear.

Mr. Sau's second child, a teacher, also suffered from mental illness.

Mr. Nguyen Van Cong (47 years old) - a neighbor next to Mr. Sau's house confided: "Mr. Sau's family situation is very pitiful. The couple is kind and frugal to raise their children, but when the children grow up, they fall ill. Seeing the family broken up is so pitiful, especially Mr. Sau, who has to take care of several people by himself. I hope that society will pay attention and help his family in this difficult time."

During the war years, Mr. Sau had fought on the battlefields. Now that he has returned to his homeland and faced a difficult situation, the old veteran still stubbornly sticks to his position. It seems that he does not dare to think about the day when “he cannot go on anymore”.

Feeding his bedridden wife spoonfuls of porridge, Mr. Sau shared: My wife and I are old and weak, now like a candle in the wind, we don't have much longer to live. I only feel sorry for our children. I don't know who will take care of them when we pass away..."
