Hoi Son (Anh Son): Creating a strong product line.
(Baonghean) - Hoi Son is a commune located in the border area of Anh Son town, with a new rural development strategy linked to the urban industrial belt. In recent years, to create a breakthrough in development, the commune has chosen to focus on building new economic models to create a stream of safe, high-quality agricultural products aimed at the market.
Currently, the model of growing clean vegetables in greenhouses under a food safety supply chain, implemented by Mr. Truong Van Hoa's household in Hamlet 2, Hoi Son Commune (Anh Son District), has completed all investment items. Inside the greenhouses, the vibrant green of the cantaloupe plants is abundant. The model, with an investment of over 1.4 billion VND, features an Israeli drip irrigation system and composting tanks. Notably, the cantaloupe seedlings are imported from Japan, using F1 generation seeds that guarantee superior quality and good growth potential, at an import cost of 2,500 VND per seed.
Mr. Truong Van Hoa (owner of the facility) said: "This summer-autumn season, I officially started growing cantaloupe, and in subsequent seasons, I will grow vegetables adapted to the climate. With the new technology I've invested in, the crops are carefully and strictly cared for, without using any pesticides. To ensure a stable market for my products, I have signed several contracts to supply cantaloupe to companies such as Vinh Cuong Clean Vegetable Company (Dong Nai), some clean vegetable suppliers in Hai Phong and Da Nang, and the Big C supermarket chain nationwide, at a stable price of 45,000 VND/kg. This model has initially created jobs for 5 seasonal workers in the area..."

Regarding the French pigeon farming model of Ms. Nguyen Thi Long's household in Hamlet 5, Hoi Son Commune, it has a scale of 500 birds, raised in two areas: one for meat pigeons and one for breeding. She imported the breeding stock from the Sang Tao Pigeon Farm (Bac Giang). This is a new type of pigeon farming that is attracting a lot of consumer interest. Having been involved with this model for over two years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Long's experience lies in her meticulous investment in everything from feed to disease prevention, daily cleaning of feed troughs, and drinking water.
In particular, using a mixed feed made from corn and rice by-products makes the pigeon meat flavorful and appealing to consumer preferences. Currently, Ms. Long's pigeon products are sold to administrative agencies, public service units, and schools in the district. According to her calculations, she sells over 50 pairs of meat and breeding pigeons each month at prices ranging from 120,000 to 450,000 VND per pair. This model generates a total income of nearly 100 million VND per year.
Despite being located within the agricultural belt surrounding Anh Son town, with many advantages for economic development, in reality, agricultural production in Hoi Son commune remains small-scale and scattered, failing to create many safe and high-quality products to meet consumer demand. The scale and stability of agricultural product offerings are also insufficient.
In response to this situation, the Resolution of the 12th Party Congress of Hoi Son Commune, term 2015-2020, clearly states: “Promote industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas, shift the economic structure of agricultural and rural production... Expand effective economic models in the fields of crops and livestock to create more diverse and highly competitive agricultural products.”

In a conversation with us, Comrade Nguyen Huu Dung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoi Son commune, said: In the spirit of the Party Committee's thematic Resolution No. 01-NQ/DU, the People's Committee of the commune issued Plan No. 02/KH-UBND on implementing the new rural development program in 2016, linking it with investment in high-income production models. They organized visits for officials and some households to learn from high-income production models in Tan Ky and Nghia Dan districts. They actively transformed the structure of crops and livestock to bring high income in production, and renovated neglected gardens in households to invest in efficient production. They provided maximum support in terms of land and land conversion for households or groups of households investing in developing clean vegetable farming models in greenhouses…
Thanks to the timely guidance and direction from the Party Committee and the government of Hoi Son commune, in just under 3 years, the entire commune has established over 20 farms and family farms specializing in the production of high-value, stable crops and livestock.
For example, a 10-hectare model of producing four corn crops per year on alluvial land in Hamlet 2, selling the corn stalks as feed for dairy cows, yields an income of 62 million VND/ha, an increase of 15 million VND/ha compared to producing corn for grain (45 million VND/ha). Then there's the 10-hectare model of planting corn for multiple crops on double-cropped rice land in Dong Truong Hamlet, providing a fairly stable income; the 4-hectare model of growing disease-free oranges in Village 10; the model of planting 150 red-fleshed dragon fruit trees in Hamlet 5; the integrated livestock farming model in Hamlet 4... with incomes of hundreds of millions of VND/year/model; contributing to the spread of these initiatives among the people and increasing the land utilization rate by 5.6 times. In addition, products from these models are gradually forming a line of high-quality products with market value.

According to the plan, by the end of 2016, Hoi Son commune will have completed 19 criteria to achieve the new rural development goal. The Chairman of the Commune People's Committee added that the most important aspect of achieving the new rural development goal is improving the living standards and income of the people. In the coming time, the commune will continue to do even better in mobilization and propaganda; apply new science and technology to production; focus on mobilizing contributions from the people combined with other legitimate budget support to create breakthroughs in the structure of plant and animal breeds, creating product lines strongly oriented towards the market. At the same time, it will continue to promote activities to achieve the new rural development goal according to the planned schedule...
