Scientific workshop 'Dien Bien Phu Victory - Historical value and contemporary stature'

This is an event to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024).

The conference's presidium includes comrades: Lieutenant General, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Bao, Director of the Academy of Politics; Major General Doan Xuan Bo, Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Danh Tien, Director of the Institute of Party History.

Attending the workshop were representatives of the Central Propaganda Department; Central Theoretical Council; representatives of agencies and units under the Ministry of National Defense; representatives of academies and schools inside and outside the Army...

Opening the workshop, Lieutenant General, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Bao, Director of the Academy of Politics, affirmed: 70 years ago, on March 13, 1954, under the leadership of the Party Central Committee, President Ho Chi Minh and the General Military Commission, the Campaign Command, the revolutionary armed forces opened fire, opening the Dien Bien Phu campaign. After 56 days and nights of arduous fighting, the campaign ended in complete victory. The extremely glorious feat contributed to the decisive end of the resistance war against the French invaders, opening the collapse of old colonialism, marking a new development step of the national liberation revolution in the world, for peace, national independence, democracy and socialism.

The workshop aims to continue affirming the correctness and certain victory of the people's war policy under the leadership of the Party and beloved President Ho Chi Minh. This is an opportunity to review the glorious revolutionary tradition of the nation; contribute to educating the younger generation; build confidence, determination, and raise the responsibility of cadres, soldiers and people for the task of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland today.

With the great stature and significance of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, up to now there have been hundreds of books, tens of thousands of articles; many seminars and conferences summarizing combat experiences; many scientific works in Vietnam and abroad analyzing and explaining the significance of the victory, discussing the reasons for the strength that the Vietnamese army and people had to createDien Bien Phu Victory“famous Dien Bien, shaking the world”. However, with the great stature and special profound significance of the Dien Bien Phu Victory in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland today, there are still issues that need to be further researched, summarized deeply and comprehensively on a practical, objective and scientific basis.

During the preparation process for the Workshop, the Organizing Committee received more than 70 presentations from generals, officers, experts, and scientific researchers inside and outside the Army. The presentations at the Workshop provided scientific arguments, affirmed and clarified the historical context, plots, and tricks of French colonialism and the intervention of American imperialism in the Winter-Spring period of 1953-1954, especially in the organization and construction of the Dien Bien Phu stronghold; on the correct and creative viewpoints, thoughts, and people's war guidelines of our Party, headed by President Ho Chi Minh; the acumen, creativity, and decisiveness in the leadership and direction of strategies and campaigns of the Supreme Command, directly by the Central Military Commission and the Commander-in-Chief.

Thereby, the Workshop clarified the role and great contributions of the armed forces, people of the whole country and ethnic groups in the Northwest, directly the army and people of Dien Bien - Lai Chau province; the support and assistance of international friends for the resistance war of the Vietnamese people against the French colonialists... From there, serving the leadership and direction of the Party, State, Central Military Commission, Ministry of National Defense in building and enhancing the combat strength of the Army, firmly protecting the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam in the new situation./.
