Con Cuong district proposes to build a tunnel through the mountain through the Bong Pass
Faced with the continuous occurrence of rocks and trees falling onto Highway 7, through the Vuc Bong pass, Con Cuong district will propose that the transport sector build an underpass to avoid accidents.
Eo Vuc BongOn National Highway 7A, through Bong Khe commune, Con Cuong district, recently there have been many incidents of rocks and large trees falling from the top of the mountain onto Highway 7A, injuring passersby and causing traffic jams.

Most recently, at around 1:00 a.m. on September 23, on National Highway 7A, through the Bong Pass, Bong Khe Commune, a tree growing naturally on a rocky ledge from a height of about 10 meters suddenly uprooted and fell onto the road along with many large rocks. Fortunately, there were no people or vehicles on the road at that time, so there was no loss of life or property.

Previously, also at this location, many large rocks and tree branches fell onto the road, injuring a motorcyclist who was traveling on the road.
People are asking why rocks and trees in the area of Vuc Bong waist did not fall before, but in just a short time recently, there have been two consecutive incidents? This situation makes everyone feel scared every time they pass through the area of Vuc Bong waist, especially during heavy rain and strong winds.

Mr. Tran Anh Tuan - Vice Chairman of People's CommitteeCon Cuong districtIt is assumed that: Eo Vuc Bong at km88+350m was previously upgraded by the transport sector by widening and raising the roadbed, so the roof was widened, forming a high, vertical cliff. After decades, due to the impact of the weather, the rocks have weathered and lacked friction.
In addition, all the trees growing on the rocky mountains are rooted trees. When the trees grow taller, the branches stretch out, causing the roots to break off from the rocks, so many rocks are separated, and when it rains and winds, they will fall down. That is the reason why trees and rocks have fallen down the road at the Bong Pass in recent days.

The immediate solution is for the district to direct specialized agencies to handle the problem by cutting down the entire system of large trees above the cliff to reduce the weight of the trees.
However, the risk of rocks falling onto the road still exists, because the large tree stump is still there and will grow branches in the future. Therefore, the district has considered a long-term solution to avoid unfortunate accidents for people every time they pass through this section of the Vuc Bong waist road.

Accordingly, Con Cuong district is currently drafting a report to send to the transport sector to propose the project: Mountain tunnel on National Highway 7 from Km 88 + 150 to Km 88 + 500 through the Bong Pass, Bong Khe commune, Con Cuong district in the public investment plan for the period 2026-2030.
Construction of a tunnel through the mountain according to the general planning for construction of Con Cuong town - the central urban area of the Southwest mountainous region - Nghe An province approved by the Provincial People's Committee in Decision No. 4438/QD.UBND-CN dated December 9, 2005 with a total length of about 350m, tunnel width of 25m.
The mountain tunnel project on National Highway 7 from Km88 + 150 to Km88 + 500 through the Vuc Bong Strait aims to implement the goals, tasks and solutions in Resolution No. 39-NQ/TW dated July 18, 2023 of the Politburo on construction and development of Nghe An province to 2030, with a vision to 2045; in accordance with the Nghe An Provincial Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister, land use planning, technical and specialized planning and other related planning; Plan 217-KH/HU dated March 28, 2024 of Con Cuong District Party Committee on implementing Action Program No. 68-CTr/TU dated November 15, 2023 of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee, which orients "building and developing Con Cuong district to become a type 4 urban area in the direction of ecology and tourism".

Observations show that National Highway 7 through the Vuc Bong pass, on one side is a steep cliff close to the road surface. On the cliff there are many large tree stumps that have just had their branches cut off, besides, the natural forest trees are quite dense, growing on cracked cliffs, and can fall at any time. On the other side is the Lam River, also close to the edge of the road, with a high risk of landslides. In addition, this road section has many narrow, winding curves, with a high potential risk of traffic accidents.
Therefore, when investing in a tunnel through the mountain, vehicles can avoid the curve, slope and risk of falling rocks causing traffic accidents in the area of Vuc Bong Pass./.
