The North Canal - an important drainage and wastewater drainage system of Vinh city, after being invested in building a solid embankment with ODA loans, was quickly covered with weeds and garbage, affecting the aesthetics and polluting the environment. Recently, Vinh City People's Committee has conducted a survey to develop a plan to dredge and clean the North Canal and signed a decision to allocate funding to Vinh Urban Infrastructure Management and Development Joint Stock Company to carry out.

However, Vinh Urban Infrastructure Management and Development Joint Stock Company has requested the City People's Committee to postpone the dredging of the North Canal, because the Vinh City wastewater treatment lake in Hung Hoa is still not completed.

According to Mr. Bui Duc Loc, if dredging is carried out now, only a few months later the grass and trees will grow back and we will have to continue dredging again, which is very costly.

Also according to Mr. Bui Duc Loc, the wastewater treatment lake of Vinh city at the end of the North canal is expected to be completed by the end of this year. After the lake is completed and handed over, Vinh Urban Infrastructure Management and Development Joint Stock Company will dredge and clean the North canal. Then, the regulating sluice at the end of the source will be closed, the water in the North canal will rise and remain stable at about 1.2 - 1.5m. Thus, plants will not be able to grow anymore; the stable water level in the canal will contribute to regulating the climate, at the same time creating an environment for shrimp and fish to live and clean the water. During floods, the sluice in the regulating lake will be opened to the maximum to ensure drainage and flood prevention for the city.
