Opening ceremony of Nguyen Canh Hoan Temple and announcement of National Intangible Heritage

(Baonghean.vn) - On the evening of April 22, Do Luong district and the Nguyen Canh family solemnly held the opening ceremony of the Nguyen Canh Hoan temple festival in 2024 and announced the festival as a national intangible heritage.

Attending the ceremony were: Nong Quoc Thanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Heritage - Ministry of Culture - Sports and Tourism, Bui Dinh Long - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Tran Thi My Hanh - Director of the Department of Culture and Sports.

Nguyen Canh Hoan Temple in Trang Son Commune (Do Luong) is an important historical relic of the Nguyen Canh family, built in the early 17th century to worship the Holy Thai Pho and famous generals of the Nguyen Canh family.

Grand Tutor of Tan Quoc Cong Nguyen Canh Hoan (1521-1576) is a historical figure who made great contributions to the country during the Le Trung Hung period.

He was the 5th generation of the Nguyen Canh family, the second son of Phuc Khanh Quan Cong Nguyen Canh Huy from Thanh Chuong district. With many illustrious achievements, after his death, the royal court and people of many localities built temples to worship him, including Nguyen Canh Hoan temple in Trang Son commune.

After more than 400 years of existence, the temple of Thai Pho Tan Quoc Cong in Trang Son commune has been restored and embellished many times. The most recent restoration, which started in 2023, has given the temple the spacious appearance it has today.

On campus over 13,000 m2On the Lam River, near the Do Luong dam, the relic has many structures such as the ceremonial gate, the three-door gate, the stele house, the lower, middle, and upper palaces, the left and right wings, and the festival house...

The temple of Thai Pho Tan Quoc Cong Nguyen Canh Hoan has an ancient beauty, many wooden structures are elaborately carved, with vivid dragon and cloud paintings. The temple also preserves many ancient sacrificial objects and artifacts such as dragon throne, dragon palanquin, horizontal lacquered boards, parallel sentences, royal decrees...

In addition to worshiping the Grand Tutor of Tan Quoc Cong Nguyen Canh Hoan, the temple also worships many famous generals of the Nguyen Canh family such as Thu Quan Cong Nguyen Canh Kien, Thang Quan Cong Nguyen Canh Ha, Lieu Quan Cong Nguyen Canh Que... The temple was ranked as a National Historical and Cultural Relic in 1991.

Nguyen Canh Hoan Temple holds a festival every 10 years called "Thac nien su le" or "Vegetarian festival".... This unique festival has been maintained by the Nguyen Canh family for hundreds of years. During the war against America, the festival was postponed 3 times in 1954, 1964 and 1974.

Since 1984, the Nguyen Canh family has restored the festival and organized it on a larger and more solemn scale. In 2023, the "Decade of Ceremonies" Festival was honored to be recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a National Intangible Heritage.

The 2024 “Decade of Events” Festival takes place over 3 days (April 21-23, or March 13-15 of the lunar calendar) with many unique cultural activities, such as ancestral processions, prayers for the dead, prayers for peace, god processions, pilgrimages to the roots, art performances, martial arts, sports competitions, folk games, etc. In which, the god procession from Nguyen Canh Hoan Temple to Phuc My Pagoda and Duc Hoang Temple (Yen Son Commune) and vice versa is one of the important and attractive highlights of the festival.

At the ceremony, representatives of the Department of Heritage - Ministry of Culture - Sports and Tourism awarded the Certificate of recognition of Nguyen Canh Hoan Temple Festival as a National Intangible Heritage to the local government and Nguyen Canh family. This was followed by the art program "Forever the Traditional Song" with many unique singing, dancing and music performances praising the homeland and country.

The "Decade of Events" festival at Nguyen Canh Hoan Temple is unique and rich in cultural identity of a "noble and prestigious" family with a tradition of "loyalty - diligence - humanity - righteousness" in Nghe An.

The festival not only arouses the pride of the family and homeland, enriches the spiritual and cultural life of the people, educates the tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source" for generations, preserves and promotes the value of the nation's heritage, but also contributes to introducing and promoting the image of Do Luong homeland - a locality with a long history and culture associated with many famous relics that are changing day by day./.
