Mother prosecuted for killing 5-month-old baby due to suspected depression

On February 28, Tien Giang Provincial Police announced that they had issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Tran Thi Xuan Nhi (25 years old, residing in Thanh Binh commune, Cho Gao district, Tien Giang province) to investigate the act of murder.

According to the initial investigation results, at around 6:00 p.m. on February 13, many people living around the house of Tran Thi Xuan Nhi and her husband, Le Tan Phong (30 years old, residing in Thanh Binh commune, Cho Gao district) were shocked to see Nhi holding baby Le Tran Duy Khang (5 months old - Nhi and her husband's biological child) in a state where the baby had many blood stains on his body.

Everyone also saw Nhi holding a knife in her hand.

People shouted and rushed in to rescue Khang, but by the time they got him out of Nhi's arms, he had died.

Upon receiving the report, the Criminal Police Department (PC45) of Tien Giang Provincial Police coordinated with the same level People's Procuracy to block off, examine the scene, and investigate the incident.

According to the autopsy results, the cause of Khang's death was an open brain wound, cerebral hemorrhage, and brain contusion suspected to have been caused by a sharp object.

Immediately afterwards, Ms. Nhi was detained by the investigation agency.

According to the initial assessment of the investigation agency, it is likely that the reason why Ms. Nhi killed her own child was due to postpartum depression. Currently, the investigation agency is still consolidating the case file to continue investigating to clarify the cause.
