Nghe An province leaders direct efforts to mitigate damage to summer-autumn rice crops caused by heavy rains.
On June 4th, Mr. Nguyen Van De, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, inspected the summer-autumn crop production situation in Yen Thanh and Dien Chau districts. He was accompanied by leaders from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Large areas of rice fields were flooded and damaged due to heavy rains.
In Yen Thanh district, the working group inspected agricultural production in Vinh Thanh, Long Thanh, and Khanh Thanh communes. These are low-lying communes in the district, and due to the heavy rains on the evening of May 30th and the morning of May 31st, many areas of summer-autumn rice crops were flooded.

According to a report from the People's Committee of Yen Thanh district, over 2,000 hectares of rice fields in the district have been flooded. To date, despite the local authorities implementing measures to save the rice, only the transplanted rice fields have shown signs of recovery; the direct-seeded rice fields, after being flooded, are almost completely damaged and require replanting.

After inspecting the landslide situation on the main canal managed by Bac Irrigation Company Limited, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee visited the model of growing black grapes and the model of breeding and raising eels for commercial purposes in Van Thanh commune.
These are models of applying scientific and technological advancements to increase production value that Yen Thanh district is developing and gradually replicating throughout the area.

In Dien Chau district, Mr. Nguyen Van De, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, inspected the summer-autumn rice production situation in Dien Cat and Dien Nguyen communes. To date, Dien Chau district has planted over 5,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice, which is generally growing and developing well. During the recent rains, 30 hectares of rice fields were flooded, but the damage was insignificant. After the water receded, farmers focused on tending and restoring the crops.

Focus on caring for and restoring the summer-autumn rice crop.
Following inspections in various localities, the Vice Chairman of the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Van De, requested that the agricultural sector and local authorities focus on mobilizing farmers to overcome the damage.
Rice fields that are unable to recover need urgent drainage and field cleaning to allow for the use of short-duration rice varieties and replanting. In areas where recovery is possible, focus on thinning and replanting to ensure proper density.

"We request that localities urgently review, reassess, and compile the area of damaged crops to propose support for people according to Decision No. 48 of 2017 of the Provincial People's Committee, and at the same time, based on regulations, request confirmation of natural disasters in the area," Comrade Nguyen Van De emphasized.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested the Department of Agriculture and local authorities to continue supporting and working alongside cooperatives and individual households in building high-tech agricultural production models, producing in a safe and sustainable manner, and meeting market demands.
On May 30th and 31st, Nghe An province experienced rain, with scattered moderate to heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain and thunderstorms. According to preliminary reports from localities, as of June 3rd, the total area of rice, corn, vegetables, and rice seedlings flooded reached over 5,540 hectares, of which nearly 2,000 hectares of rice were severely damaged and had to be replanted.
