Nghe An provincial leaders direct to overcome summer-autumn rice damage caused by heavy rain
On June 4, Mr. Nguyen Van De, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, inspected the summer-autumn crop production situation in Yen Thanh and Dien Chau districts. He was accompanied by leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Many rice fields flooded and damaged due to heavy rain
In Yen Thanh district, the working group inspected production in Vinh Thanh, Long Thanh and Khanh Thanh communes. These are low-lying communes of the district. Due to the impact of heavy rain on the evening of May 30 and the morning of May 31, many areas of summer-autumn rice were flooded.

According to the report of Yen Thanh District People's Committee, the whole district has more than 2,000 hectares of rice flooded. Up to now, although the locality has implemented measures to save the rice, only the transplanted rice areas have the ability to recover; as for the direct-sown rice areas after being flooded, they are almost completely damaged and must be replanted.

After inspecting the landslide situation on the main canal managed by the Northern Irrigation Company Limited, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee visited the black grape growing model and the eel breeding and commercial farming model in Van Thanh commune.
These are models of applying scientific and technical advances to increase production value that Yen Thanh district is building to gradually replicate in the area.

In Dien Chau district, Mr. Nguyen Van De - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also inspected the summer-autumn rice production situation in Dien Cat and Dien Nguyen communes. Up to now, Dien Chau district has planted over 5,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice, which generally grew and developed well. During the recent rains, 30 hectares of rice were flooded but the damage was insignificant. After the water receded, farmers focused on recovery care.

Focus on caring for and restoring summer-autumn rice
After inspecting localities, Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De requested the agricultural sector and localities to focus on mobilizing farmers to overcome the damage.
Rice areas that cannot recover need to be urgently drained and cleaned to use short-term rice varieties and replant. Areas that can recover should be focused on pruning to ensure density.

“We request that localities urgently review, re-evaluate and summarize the area of damaged crops to propose support for people according to Decision No. 48/2017 of the Provincial People's Committee, and at the same time, based on regulations, propose confirmation of natural disasters in the area,” emphasized comrade Nguyen Van De.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested the Department of Agriculture and localities to continue to support and accompany cooperatives and individual households to build agricultural production models applying high technology, producing in a safe, sustainable direction and meeting market demand.
On May 30 and 31, Nghe An experienced scattered moderate to heavy rain, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain and thunderstorms. According to a quick summary of local reports, as of June 3, the total area of rice, corn, vegetables and seedlings flooded was over 5,540 hectares, of which nearly 2,000 hectares of rice were severely damaged and had to be re-sown.
