(Baonghean.vn) - With a total area of only 132 m2 of mud-free eel farming tank, but with a unique and scientific farming method, each year, Mr. Ngo Sy Quan's family in Hamlet 6, Quynh Doi Commune, Quynh Luu District earns more than 600 million VND from selling commercial eels. This is also the first successful mud-free eel farming model in Quynh Doi.

Always cherishing the dream of getting rich on his homeland, Mr. Ngo Sy Quan is quite active in economic development, with many different jobs. In particular, after many visits, summarizing experiences and techniques, Mr. Quan boldly chose the mud-free eel farming model to invest.

In early 2021, he started building 22 square tanks, each with an area of 6 square meters, paved with tiles around and at the bottom of the tank to create smoothness, helping pets not to be injured or scratched when moving.

After completing the disinfection of the tank, he bought 10,000 semi-artificial eel fry, with various sizes from 500 - 2,000 fish/kg in the South to raise. Thanks to scientific care and proper procedures, he had many advantages right from the first steps in the process of raising the fry.

Mr. Quan shared: For eels to grow and develop well, first of all, when building a farm, we must focus on ensuring coolness in the summer and cover to create warmth in the winter.

At the same time, eels are quite sensitive to the water environment in the tank, so every day he changes the water twice according to the morning and afternoon time frame. The water source is taken from the canal, so before putting it in the tank, he often puts the water into the tank through a filter system containing charcoal, sand, and rocks to filter out impurities such as iron alum... After 30 minutes of changing the water, when the eel is stable, he feeds the animals to avoid shock.

In addition, he always focuses on preventing and treating common diseases in eels such as intestinal hemorrhagic fever, fungus, diarrhea, etc. by dissolving antibiotics on the surface of the tank. What is special is that every day he lets the eels listen to music to help them get used to strange sounds, to avoid shock from noise, being startled and leading to sudden death.

After 12 months of raising, the eels reached a weight of 3 - 4 taels each, then Mr. Quan's family started selling them. Photo: Hong Dien

During the process of raising eels, Mr. Quan realized that eels are very easy to raise, the care is not as complicated as other animals, the survival rate of the offspring is over 97% and especially has high economic value.

After 12 months, the commercial eels reach a weight of 3 - 4 taels/fish, with a length of 55 - 60 cm, then he proceeds to sell them. At his farm, when traders from the northern provinces come to buy the product, they always test to see if the eels contain any residual growth hormones, growth hormones, or antibiotics. If they meet the standards, they will purchase them to ensure the health of consumers. Thanks to following the care steps, Mr. Quan sells 6 - 7 tons of eels to the market each year, with an import price of 170,000 VND/kg. After deducting expenses, he earns a profit of 30 - 35 million VND/tank with only 6m2To limit the amount of products available at the same time, Mr. Quan chose to rotate the millipedes, with each tank usually harvested 2 months apart.

Realizing the strong market for commercial eels, Mr. Quan plans to continue expanding the scale and increasing the number of mud-free eel tanks. In addition, he is willing to share tank construction methods, experience, techniques, disease prevention and treatment methods, and provide breeds for people who want to raise semi-artificial eels, to develop the household economy and contribute to diversifying livestock in the locality.

“The mud-free eel farming model of Mr. Ngo Sy Quan's family is a new model with high economic value in Quynh Doi commune. Through the survey, we found that this type of animal is easy to raise, has high productivity, especially in terms of output, stable prices and tested eel quality when sold; the economic value is much higher than other types of animals raised. The People's Committee of the commune will coordinate with the Farmers' Association to organize for people who want to raise eels to visit and learn from experiences to replicate the model in the area, increasing income per unit area" - Mr. Ho Bao Thong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Doi commune, Quynh Luu district said.
