Fire from bamboo rice cooking site burned down 7 hectares of protective forest

(Baonghean.vn) - From about 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on July 4, a serious forest fire broke out in Hamlet 11, Nghia Mai Commune (Nghia Dan), burning down about 7 hectares of protective forest. The initial cause was determined to be a man cooking sticky rice in the forest.

Some people around the area said that the fire broke out from the Khe Bo forest mountain top area (bordering Quy Hop and Quy Chau districts). Due to the hot weather, combined with the thick layer of vegetation, mainly bamboo and reed forests, the fire spread quickly to other areas.

Immediately after receiving information from Nghia Mai commune, functional forces and district leaders were present at the scene to direct the forest fire fighting. Forest owners, militia, police and fully prepared vehicles, materials and necessities on the spot to participate in fire fighting.

In a short time, the district mobilized over 500 people and vehicles to the scene to participate in fire fighting. However, due to the mountainous terrain, fire fighting vehicles could not reach, making fire fighting very difficult.

After more than 9 hours of actively extinguishing the fire, by 11pm the same day, the fire was basically under control.

This morning (July 5), the fire is still smoldering and forces are still on duty to guard against the fire breaking out again.

According to information from the People's Committee of Nghia Dan district, the initial cause of the fire was determined to be a man named Lang Van Phoi, residing in hamlet 2A, Nghia Mai commune, who went into the forest to catch bees and cooked sticky rice in the forest./.
