At Hong Son Temple, many people go to the temple at the beginning of the year to buy bags of salt and matches for good luck. Photo: Thu Huyen |
In general, after Tet, the goods served are not as diverse as before Tet and the number of customers is not as high because people have prepared for shopping in advance. Prices of technological products such as beer, soft drinks, instant noodles, etc. are stable; however, some food and vegetable items have increased slightly due to limited supply, and during Tet, services are charged higher. Some items with high demand for the New Year's ceremonies such as chrysanthemums, fruits, areca nuts, etc. have increased in price by about 20-30% compared to normal days.
In addition, with the traditional concept of "Buy salt at the beginning of the year, buy lime at the end of the year", many people choose to buy salt on New Year's Day with the hope of having good luck all year round. And the price of salt has doubled compared to normal days, a 0.5 kg salt package costs 10,000 VND/package (normal days it is only 4,000 - 5,000 VND/package).
