On the afternoon of October 27, 2020, Tan Ky District People's Court held a public first-instance criminal trial against Nguyen Vinh Dung (born 2002), residing atNghia Hoa hamlet, Nghia Phuc commune, Tan Ky district for the crime of "robbery".
On September 6, 2020, Dung used his personal Facebook account named “Tay Yen Tu” to send a message to the Facebook sales page “i.FAN SHOP” at 230B, Phong Dinh Cang Street, Vinh City, owned by Mr. Nguyen Van Duc (born in 1996), residing in Hamlet 3, Chau Nhan Commune, Hung Nguyen District, to ask to buy a phone.
Through text message exchanges, Dung ordered 02 iPhone XS MAX phones, with a total order value of 27,700,000 VND. After that, Dung deposited 100,000 VND and ordered the 02 phones mentioned above according to the recipient's information named "Yen", address Hong Ky hamlet, Nghia Phuc commune, Tan Ky district, phone number: 03363820xx.

At about 4:30 p.m. on September 8, 2020, Mr. Trinh Anh Tuan, a delivery man, called a person named Yen (ie Nguyen Vinh Dung) to deliver the above package. Dung said: "You go to the intersection in Nghia Hoa hamlet, Nghia Phuc commune, Tan Ky district and I will come out to receive it.”.
Dung drove a white Yamaha Sirius motorbike with license plate 27N1-036.30 to see Mr. Tuan waiting there. Here Dung said: “I am Yen, I receive transplants.", Mr. Tuan took out a box, opened it and showed Dung 2 phones. After confirming that the 2 phones were ordered, Dung told Mr. Tuan that he would transfer money to pay for the goods.
Hearing that, Mr. Tuan agreed. At this time, Dung took out the SAMSUNG Galaxy phone he was using and pretended to transfer money to prolong the time. If he saw the delivery staff being careless, he would snatch the 2 phones and run away. However, Mr. Tuan strictly controlled the 2 phones, so Dung used the excuse that the phone had 1% battery left, not enough battery to transfer money, so the two went to Mr. Hai's house, residing in Nghia Hoa hamlet, Nghia Phuc commune, Tan Ky district, the house was located near the road to ask to charge the phone.
Dung took his phone and went in, plugged it in with the host's phone charger, then left the phone on the table and went to Mr. Tuan who was sitting at the opposite table and asked to see the 2 phones. Mr. Tuan took the phone out of the box and gave it to Dung to see. At this time, Dung stood near the entrance, 1 meter away from where Mr. Tuan was sitting. About 2 minutes later, seeing that Mr. Tuan was not paying attention, Dung put the 2 phones in the pocket of his pants and ran out to the street, jumped on the motorbike that was parked and escaped. Mr. Tuan ran after him but could not catch up.
In the Asset Valuation Conclusion No. 27/KLĐG-HDĐG dated September 10, 2020 of the Tan Ky District Valuation Council, it was concluded that the total value of the two above-mentioned phones is 27,200,000 VND.
Mr. Tuan quickly reported to Nghia Phuc Commune Police. That same afternoon, Tan Ky District Police "captured" Nguyen Vinh Dung right in Tan Ky town with the evidence.

Mr. Trinh Anh Tuan has received back the 2 stolen phones so he has no further requests. The person with related rights and obligations, Mr. Nguyen Van Duc (owner of the iFANSHOP phone store and also the owner of the Facebook account "iFANSHOP") has received back the 2 phones so he has no further civil requests.
At the end of the trial, the panel sentenced Nguyen Vinh Dung to 18 months in prison.
