(Baonghean.vn) - After only a short time of calling, organizations and unions joined hands to rescue nearly 10 tons of shallots for people in Nghi Loc district (Nghe An).

It is now the main harvest season for chives inNghe An, different from the cheerful and excited mood of previous years, people in the "capital" of Nghi Loc onions are in a state of anxiety, unable to sit still because the price of onions has dropped sharply but there are still no buyers, so they have to leave them in the fields or harvest them and pile them up in their homes. People can only hope for benefactors to come to the "rescue."

Faced with that situation, in recent days many organizations and groups have joined hands to rescue.shallotsfor the people. Ms. Le Thi Duyen - agricultural officer of Nghi Lam commune, Nghi Loc said: "After the appeal, organizations such as the Farmers' Association, the Women's Union, and other districts have come to the locality to both harvest and purchase shallots for the people, helping people minimize damage. Currently, there are still some units that continue to register to "rescue" shallots in the coming days".

It is known that the current rescue price of shallots is 15,000 VND/kg. By the end of March 22, there were nearly10 tonsshallots are consumed, this number will continue to increase in the coming time.

Mrs. Bui Thi Nhung, in Nghi Lam commune (Nghi Loc) was excited: From the beginning of March until now, we have been very worried because the price of onions has dropped to a record low but there are still no traders coming to buy like previous years, causing the onions to be very unsold. People have harvested and piled them up from inside the house to the yard, giving off a strong smell. Fortunately, individuals and organizations have come to the rescue, so we are very excited and grateful...".

Although nearly 10 tons of shallots have been rescued, this is a very modest number compared to the amount of unsold shallots in the district.Nghi LocIt is known that Nghi Loc district currently has more than 200 hectares of shallots, mainly in Nghi Lam, Nghi Kieu, Nghi Thuan communes with an output of up to thousands of tons, so the rescue is only temporary and not sustainable.

Mr. Tran Nguyen Hoa - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghi Loc district commented: "The reason why shallots are sluggish is mainly because in previous years, the price of this agricultural product increased, people have massively expanded the area while the consumption market for this product is still limited. Therefore, in the coming time, we will re-plan the onion growing area, and at the same time strengthen the connection to ensure the output for this agricultural product".
