This is the current situation in the vegetable growing areas of Quynh Luu district and Hoang Mai town.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Van in Quynh Lien commune grows 13 sao of chayote. In previous years, after harvesting, she sold the crop to traders for an average of 2,000 VND/kg, earning her more than 100 million VND. However, since Tet, she has not been able to sell the chayote, so she has had to hire someone to pick some of the fruit to preserve the vines for the following crops.

Chayote squash piled up right at the foot of the field. Never before has chayote squash been so unsold at harvest time as this year.
Invegetable growing areaIn Quynh Luu district, people are also "miserable" because they cannot sell vegetables and have to cut them up to feed poultry and livestock and compost them right in the fields.
In previous years, the cheapest price for cabbage was around 2,000 VND/kg, but after Tet until now, the price is only 500 VND/kg but still cannot be sold. The vegetables are too old, so people have to rent a plow to use as fertilizer.

The coastal area of Quynh Luu and Hoang Mai town is the largest vegetable growing area in the province with more than 1,000 hectares. Unsold vegetables, now people have to spend more money to hire tractors to process the vegetables piled up in the fields to plant a new crop.
According to the calculations of the agricultural sector of the communes in the coastal areas, for every hectare of vegetables, people lose more than 120 million VND. And if the situation of unsold vegetables continues, this spring crop, people in Quynh Luu and Hoang Mai will lose tens of billions of VND.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong in Quynh Luong commune (Quynh Luu) said that before, her family bought 5-6 tons of vegetables every day, but now they buy about 5-6 quintals and then sell them retail at the markets.
More than ever, vegetable growers are in dire need of encouragement and sharing from all levels of industry to quickly overcome immediate difficulties as well as orient long-term, contributing towards sustainable, commodity agricultural production./.
