(Baonghean.vn) - During the time Vinh city implemented "stay where you are", the blood reserve for treatment at hospitals was exhausted.

Doctor CKII Nguyen Dinh Khue - Director of Nghe An Province Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center said that currently, the source of blood and blood products such as platelets, red blood cells, and plasma at the center is very difficult. There are about 1,000 units of blood in the warehouse. With this amount, it can only meet the needs of treating blood diseases and emergency blood transfusions for hospitals for about 1 week. In particular, some blood types are almost out of stock, so it is impossible to produce products for treatment.

The reason is that due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, Vinh city is implementing Directive 16; many other districts and cities are also implementing Directives 15 and 16, so volunteers are almost unable to travel to Vinh city to donate blood.

Faced with the above situation, in recent times, many officers, soldiers and frontline workers in Vinh city have come to the center to donate blood and save lives.

On August 30, three female officers of the Environmental Police Department of the Nghe An Police Live Blood Bank Club, including Lieutenant Colonel Le Thi Xuan Thuy, Major Cao Thi Phuong Ly and Major Pham Thi Mai Anh,volunteered to donate 700ml of blood, support patient Chu Quang Tuan, born in 1969, residing in Tru Son commune, Do Luong district, had to have emergency skin graft surgery for a wound from a severe burn.

During the recent holiday, Mr. Pham Quang Tuan, 25 years old, a member of the Covid-19 Prevention Committee of Hung Dong commune, Vinh city; Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, Luong Thi Thanh Luong, Tran Kim Anh - officers of Nghe An Provincial Police, along with many doctors and nurses working at hospitals in Vinh city, also went to the Provincial Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center to donate blood and save lives.

Dr. Nguyen Dinh Khue said that currently, the blood demand to meet treatment needs at hospitals in the province is about 1,000 units of blood and 20 units of platelets/day. In particular, some Covid-19 patients with severe symptoms also need blood for treatment. "Therefore, we earnestly call on people in the "green zone" to participate in donating blood to save lives because the blood supply is very tense and very scarce," said Dr. Khue.
