According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the severe cold spell in recent days has caused the death of over 800 livestock, mainly buffaloes, cows, pigs, goats..., mainly concentrated in the mountainous districts of Ky Son, Que Phong, Quy Chau...

In that situation, Mr. Nguyen Van De - Director of Nghe An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will advise the Provincial People's Committee to implement a policy to support farmers whose livestock died due to cold. Specifically: According to Decision 48/2017/QD-UBND regulating the policy to support agricultural production to restore production in areas damaged by natural disasters and epidemics in Nghe An province, cases of buffaloes, cows and poultry dying due to the recent severe cold spell will be included in the province's support policy.

Currently, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is asking districts to report on the damage caused by livestock and poultry dying due to the cold and compile statistics to submit to the Provincial People's Committee, promptly supporting people as soon as possible to restore production.

For localities suffering damage due to livestock and poultry dying due to cold weather, it is required to have accurate statistics and checks, verified by local authorities from hamlets to communes, and to follow the correct procedures to avoid fraudulent declarations.

According to Decision 48/2017/QD-UBND regulating policies to support agricultural production to restore production in areas damaged by natural disasters and epidemics in Nghe An province, the support level for livestock and poultry farming is as follows:

Damage caused by natural disasters: Poultry (chicken, duck, goose) up to 28 days old, support 20,000 VND/bird; over 28 days old, support 35,000 VND/bird.

Pigs up to 28 days old, support 400,000 VND/pig; over 28 days old support: 1,000,000 VND/pig; sows and boars in exploitation, support 2,000,000 VND/pig;

Dairy heifers up to 6 months old, support 3,000,000 VND/head; dairy cows over 6 months old support 10,000,000 VND/head;

Buffalo, beef cattle, horses up to 6 months old, support 2,000,000 VND/head; over 6 months old support 6,000,000 VND/head.

Deer, sheep, goats: Deer support: 2,500,000 VND/animal; Sheep, goats support: 1,000,000 VND/animal.

Nghe An: Nearly 500 buffaloes and cows froze to death
