(Baonghean.vn) - Just because she listened to her cousin who lost money in a bet, Tran Thi Tan became a robber. On the day of her trial, the defendant cried throughout the trial.

On August 21, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of Tran Thi Tan (born 1981), residing in Vo Liet commune, Thanh Chuong district, for the crime of "Robbery".

Tran Thi Tan is a defendant with a tragic fate. In 1996, when she was only 15 years old, Tan was tricked and sold to China to work in a brothel. In 2004, Tan was redeemed by a kind-hearted Vietnamese couple.

While living in China, Tan met Dam Trieu Nong (born in 1962) and Ha My Cuong (born in 1962), both from Guizhou province, China. Nong asked Tan to take him back to Vietnam to buy buffalo, cows, and wood to sell in China.

On September 25, 2019, these three people illegally crossed the border into Vietnam. At the same time, Tan received a phone call from Nguyen Dang Hao (born in 1991, residing in Ngoc Son commune, Thanh Chuong district, Tan's uncle's younger brother, currently living in Binh Duong) asking to borrow money to pay off gambling debts.

Tan did not lend money but said he was going back to Vietnam with two Chinese people to buy buffalo and cows. Hao said: "Can you take their money?" Tan refused, Hao said: "Let me take care of everything." After that, Hao called Nguyen Thinh Thi (born in 1991, residing in Ngoc Son commune, living in Hanoi) to direct the robbery.

Then, via Zalo message, Tan showed Thi the identifying features of the two Chinese people.

At 2:00 a.m. on September 27, when Tan and two Chinese people had just gotten off the bus, a stranger suddenly hit them in the head, sprayed pepper spray in their faces, and robbed them of their money bag.

After robbing 57,000 yuan, Thi brought it to Vinh City to exchange for more than 182 million VND. Thi gave Tan 10 million VND.

That same afternoon, Tan brought two Chinese men to report the incident to the Ngoc Son Commune Police Department. During the process of working with the police, knowing that he could not escape punishment, Tan contacted Hao and Thi to ask them to surrender, but these people did not agree.

However, the next day, Hao sent 130 million VND to relatives to submit to the investigation agency.

In court, the defendant admitted all his crimes. Defendant Tan cried and asked for a lighter sentence so he could start his life over. The defendant explained his difficult circumstances, being tricked and sold, and only because he listened to Hao's words that he got into trouble with the law.

Considering the case as a whole, the court sentenced Tran Thi Tan to 5 years in prison for "Robbery".

As for the two subjects Thi and Hao, the investigation agency has issued a wanted order, separating them into another case, and will handle them later when they are arrested./.
