Drug trafficking suspect broke open the door of a police van and escaped on the way to be transferred.

Taking advantage of the hail and strong winds, Hanh pried open the truck's ventilation window and escaped through the roof. It took the police more than 6 hours to recapture the suspect.

The incident occurred on the morning of April 3 when suspect Duong Hong Hanh (30 years old, residing in Team 9, Van Tho, Dai Tu, Thai Nguyen) was transferred from the center of Na Hang district (Tuyen Quang) to Tuyen Quang city to serve the investigation and trial. The distance traveled was more than 100 km of mountain forest road.

Hanh was arrested for illegal possession of drugs in Na Hang district. He has been prosecuted by the authorities.

According to Colonel Ha Duc Nong, Chief of Na Hang District Police, at around 7am, the vehicle carrying the prisoner arrived at Hoa Da village (Phuc Thinh commune, Chiem Hoa district) in heavy rain, strong winds and hail. The vehicle was moving at a moderate speed. Suddenly, Hanh pried open the ventilation door on the top of the vehicle, climbed onto the roof and jumped onto the road.

Discovered, the police immediately chased after Hanh, but she quickly hid in the woods along the road. To chase her, the police mobilized both the militia and local people.

Due to the rugged mountainous terrain, the suspect had many hiding places. Police and support forces had to organize a siege and ambush on many roads.

After nearly 6 hours, Hanh left his hiding place, went to a local house to ask for money and asked to be taken to the main road to catch a car to escape. After receiving information from the local people, the police came to arrest Hanh, put him back in the van, and continued the journey to the temporary detention center of Tuyen Quang Provincial Police.

By the afternoon of April 3, suspect Hanh had been taken to the Tuyen Quang Provincial Police Detention Center. Speaking to reporters, Colonel Nguyen Hong Sam - Director of Tuyen Quang Provincial Police said that the provincial police will hold a meeting and clarify the case.
