Thai Hoa people sell papaya at double the price after liquidating the product consumption contract.
(Baonghean.vn) - According to information from the people and Tay Hieu Agricultural Cooperative, in recent days, papaya has been purchased by traders at double the price, making people very excited.
On the afternoon of August 28, Mr. Nguyen Quang Hieu - representative of Tay Hieu Agricultural Cooperative (Thai Hoa Town) said that for nearly a week now, after the cooperative terminated the contract for planting and consuming products with Nafoods Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company, households have the right to freely sell papaya products to the market.
"Fortunately, papaya was purchased by traders at a price twice as high as the price signed in the previous product purchase contract with the enterprise," said Mr. Hieu.
Specifically, according to the project contract on the supply of papaya seeds and product consumption between Tay Hieu Agricultural Cooperative and the enterprise in November 2022, the company will purchase all papaya products for the cooperative grown on an area of 13.6 hectares; the purchase price is 3,500 VND/kg. According to people's calculations, on average 1 hectare of papaya tree yields from 140 - 150 tons. It is expected that by harvest time, the cooperative households will harvest nearly 2,000 tons.
Currently, traders are purchasing papaya at the garden for 5,000 - 7,000 VND/kg, depending on the quality of the fruit. Mr. Hieu said that the traders are mainly from the province, coming from neighboring localities and purchasing at the garden for the people, and have purchased about 75 tons.
Previously, after the company announced to stop purchasing papaya from Tay Hieu Agricultural Cooperative, on August 18, representatives of Tay Hieu Agricultural Cooperative, cooperative members and representatives of Nafoods Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company had a meeting at Tay Hieu Commune People's Committee to resolve the issue of people having to cut down products that they had signed a contract to grow and consume with the company because they were not purchased, and people still complied with the contract not to sell to the market.
After the meeting, the two sides agreed on a plan to liquidate the contract, compensate 225 million VND/ha for the investment to the people; at the same time, the company also supported 50% of the amount of money for buying seedlings that the people still owed the company (specifically 8 million VND/ha). On the afternoon of August 21, Tay Hieu Agricultural Cooperative received nearly 3 billion VND from Nafoods Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company; the two sides have liquidated the contract and the people can freely sell papaya products to the market.
The representative of Nafoods Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company also affirmed that the remaining trees and fruits can be consumed by the people as they wish, and the company will work together to help the people find outlets.
“People were very excited to receive compensation for their investment, even though they had to take care of the trees for nearly a year. We also sympathize with businesses when they face difficulties in the consumption market. These days, the price of papaya may have suddenly increased because it is the Full Moon Festival of the seventh lunar month, when the market demand for fruit has increased dramatically, but that is also a joy for households,” Mr. Hieu said.
