Vinh city residents upset because of lack of water for daily use
In recent days, people in many wards and communes in Vinh city have had to endure the situation of tap water not being able to meet their daily needs. Some wards and communes have even been without water for a whole week.
Ms. Tran Thi Hien, resident of block 8, Le Loi ward, said that for the past month, tap waterThe water around her house is very weak and often goes out, greatly affecting her family's life. Mrs. Hien's family does not have a well in the house, so the water source mainly depends on tap water. However, recently, the water stored in the underground tank has a capacity of about 3m3also exhausted.
"If this situation continues, there will definitely be no clean water left to use," said Ms. Hien.

Wards near Hung Vinh Water Plant (Cua Nam Ward), such as Doi Cung, Le Loi, Vinh Tan, Hong Son... are already struggling with weak water and water loss, while areas at the end of the pipeline such as Nghi Phu and Hung Loc have even more trouble when there is no water.
Ms. Tran Thi Thu, residing in My Thuong hamlet, Hung Loc commune, could not contain her anger when for the whole week, her family's tap water had not had a drop, even late at night or during off-peak hours.
Many people reported that the water supply unit did not give prior notice of the water outage. And when people called the hotline, they came down to check and answered "let it go".

The prolonged water outage has also caused many people to complain on social media platforms and request the authorities to intervene. Many people also said that their family's pump burned out because they did not receive a notice of water cut-off, causing the water to run out, causing the backup tank to run dry.
Responding to our question about the prolonged water shortage, Mr. Hoang Van Hai - General Director of Nghe An Water Supply Company said: This problem is not new, and has been predicted and announced by the company in advance.

According to Mr. Hai, currently the water supply system of Vinh and surrounding areas includes 3 factories (Hung Vinh, Hung Nguyen, Cau Bach) with a design capacity of 94,000m3/day and night is not enough compared to the needs of the people. The entire Vinh city area and surrounding areas currently have 110,000 water customers, including households, individuals, organizations and units.
In particular, in recent years, the demand for water in organizations and enterprises has increased rapidly, especially in VSIP Industrial Park. In previous years, the demand for water in this Industrial Park was about 2,000m3/day and night. However, the demand has now increased to 3,000 to 4,000m3/day, night.

Faced with this situation, Mr. Hai said that the solution is being implemented by pressurizing by region. In the long term, Nghe An Water Supply Joint Stock Company is completing documents and procedures to upgrade the capacity of Cau Bach Water Plant to 50,000m3/day and night to serve the needs of people and industrial zones.

In fact, through research, since May 2023, Nghe An Water Supply Joint Stock Company has updated information and notified water consumption index of each household via Zalo platform. In April, Nghe An Water Supply Joint Stock Company also issued: Notice on water loss and water shortage in the hot season of 2024 and Notice on water loss and water shortage on April 20, 2024. Most recently, this morning (June 19), "Nghe An Water Supply" unit also issued another notice on water loss and water shortage in Vinh city and surrounding areas.

The lack of domestic water for a first-class urban area like Vinh city is unsatisfactory, because the clean water usage index is an important factor in assessing the quality of life.
The prolonged situation of water shortage requires the water supply unit itself to increase the application of solutions and technology in its operations; invest in upgrading the system to ensure continuous and stable water supply for the people. In addition, functional sectors and state management units need to strengthen solutions to meet the increasing demand for water use.
During the dry season, people also need to raise awareness of using water effectively, avoiding loss and waste; at the same time, update information promptly to have the most effective response solutions.
