After the recent flood, the main water pipeline of Mac village, Tuong Duong commune (Nghe An) was washed away, causing 61 households to lack water and disrupt their daily lives. Without waiting or relying on outside support, the people here joined hands to urgently fix the problem, quickly restoring the water source to stabilize their lives.

The historic flood not only swept away many properties and structures, but also destroyed hundreds of meters of water pipeline - the only source of domestic water for the people of Mac village.Tuong Duong commune.

Lack of clean water made cooking, washing, and bathing difficult; many households were forced to use stream water or ask for water from neighboring villages. The peaceful life was suddenly disrupted, all activities were interrupted.

Faced with that situation, the villagers held a meeting and agreed that each household would send one worker to participate in the repair. The commune government supported all the new water pipes, while the villagers took on the transportation and installation. The very next morning, the sound of hammering, drilling, and laughter echoed throughout the slope leading to the stream.

Mr. Luong Van Ngoan - Head of Mac village, said: "Domestic water is an essential need, if not resolved immediately, people's lives will be affected in the long term. As soon as the flood receded, we discussed and assigned each group to be in charge of each section of pipe. Those who are strong will carry and carry; those who are skillful will assemble and connect the pipes. Thanks to the spirit of solidarity, everything happened faster than expected. If nothing changes, at the latest, people will have water to use again tomorrow."

Along the route leading to the source, groups of people take turns transporting plastic pipe rolls, crossing small streams, following mountain slopes, and some sections having to climb steep slopes. At the location where the Lam River intersects the pipeline, people have creatively used steel cables to fix the pipes across the river - a solution that is both safe and saves time.

Mr. Vi Van Hoang, a local resident who participated in the repair, wiped his sweat and shared: "After being without water for several days, I realized how precious every drop of water is. Although it was hard to install the pipes, everyone was happy because they knew that after the work was done, people would have water again. The section across the river was the most difficult, but when it was completed, everyone was excited."

In times of hardship and natural disasters, community cohesion is the “cool water” that nourishes faith, helping life return to peace soon.
