(Baonghean) - When mentioning Ms. Truong Thi Dung in Tan Xuan village, Quynh Thuan commune, Quynh Luu district, almost all doctors and nurses of Nghe An Hematology - Blood Transfusion Center know her, because she has been a familiar face for more than 5 years in donating blood to save lives.

Born into a farming family of 5 siblings in the poor commune of Quynh Tho (Quynh Luu), where people mostly depend on salt production for their living, after finishing 12th grade, Dung only stayed at home. A hard life combined with her nature of having little contact with the outside world meant that it was not until she was 39 that she got married to an older man in a neighboring commune and had a daughter who is in 4th grade this year.

Talking about the fate that led her to participate in humanitarian blood donation, Ms. Dung still remembers clearly the time in 2012 when she took care of her sick husband in the Central Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital. During the days there, she witnessed many patients needing blood transfusion support but not everyone was able to receive blood in time because there were so many patients, especially those with rare blood types.

Once, witnessing a young patient lose too much blood and pass away, she wondered why she, who was so healthy, did not donate some blood to save them. Thinking and doing, she asked for directions to the test registration room. Holding the doctor's results, concluding that all indicators were acceptable and that she could register to donate blood at any time, she happily returned to the hospital room to tell her husband. Her husband nodded and said: "If you want to, then just do it."

Registered like that, but it was not until July 2014, when taking her husband to the Nghe An Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center for cancer treatment, that Ms. Dung had the opportunity to donate blood for the first time. That day, staff at the Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital rushed to find someone to urgently donate blood type O to save a child who had lost a lot of blood. Without hesitation, Ms. Dung volunteered to donate blood. With good health, she donated 350ml of blood, promptly helping to save the child's life.

Since then, every 3 months, she has driven her motorbike more than 60 km to the Center to donate blood. In just over 5 years, she has donated blood 19 times to save lives. According to the appointment, in January 2020, she will be present at the Provincial Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center to continue her charity work.

Talking to us, Ms. Dung said that she will continue to donate blood until she can no longer donate. Her noble act has spread throughout the community, helping many people in the countryside understand the meaning of humanitarian blood donation as well as dispelling concerns about whether blood donation affects health or not.

Since then, many more people have boldly registered like her, becoming a beautiful humanitarian trait that is widely replicated.
