(Baonghean.vn) - In the face of the new coronavirus strain causing pneumonia in dozens of people in China, the Ministry of Health has issued a document guiding the diagnosis and treatment of this disease.

The Ministry of Health has just issued a document on guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of acute pneumonia caused by the new strain of Corona virus (nCoV). This is the culprit causing acute pneumonia in Wuhan city, China, which started late last year, with 41 people hospitalized and 2 deaths. The disease spread rapidly to countries and territories such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Thailand, and Japan.

Corona (CoV) is a large family of viruses that cause respiratory illnesses ranging from the common cold to severe, life-threatening illnesses such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV) in 2002 and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) in 2012. nCoV is a new strain of Corona virus that has never been seen before, with no specific treatment and no vaccine to prevent the disease.

"Although the strange pneumonia is not as severe as SARS or A/H5N1 flu and the mortality rate is not high, people must pay close attention to the symptoms of the disease to have timely treatment," the Ministry of Health recommends.

Fever and pneumonia, interstitial pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) based on clinical or radiological findings of varying degrees of damage not due to infection or other etiology, are signs of nCoV-induced lung disease. People with chronic diseases, immunodeficiency, are at high risk of severe disease.

People with fever or respiratory symptoms that begin within 14 days of contact with a patient or someone returning from an epidemic area should be suspected of being infected with nCoV.

Signs of pneumonia caused by nCoV are different from those of influenza (influenza A/H1N1, avian influenza A/HSN1...), SARS and MERS, or other pneumonia caused by respiratory syncytial virus (SRV), adenovirus, mycoplasma...

All cases or suspected cases must be examined and treated in isolation at the hospital. Since there is no specific treatment, patients are mainly treated symptomatically, with timely detection and treatment of respiratory failure, kidney failure and other organ failure, if any.

Patients can only be discharged from the hospital when they have been fever-free for at least 3 days, are in good general condition, with normal pulse, blood pressure, blood tests, improved chest X-ray, and normal kidney function.

The Ministry of Health recommends that to prevent infection with the new nCoV virus, you should wear a mask and go to a medical facility immediately when you have respiratory symptoms. Practice personal hygiene such as washing your hands frequently with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, especially after sneezing, coughing or wiping your nose. Cover your nose and mouth when sneezing and coughing, and throw tissues in a separate covered trash can. Ensure a balanced diet. Avoid contact and gathering in crowded places and places with poor ventilation. Limit direct contact with pets and wild animals.

In particular, it is necessary to prevent infection in hospitals. Implement patient triage, isolation and treatment, and infection control measures. Prevent and control infection for medical staff, caregivers and other patients in the hospital.

Vietnam has not yet detected any domestic cases. Two Chinese tourists entering the country through Da Nang airport had a fever and were quarantined. Tests for all strains of the Corona virus on the patient samples were negative, however, due to the lack of nCoV test kits, it is not possible to conclude whether the patient has the strange pneumonia or not. The patient's sample has been sent to an international testing unit in Ho Chi Minh City for nCoV testing.
