A few days ago, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thang (born in 1952) in Hamlet 4, Tuong Son Commune (Anh Son) was awarded a house of gratitude by a business with the amount of 70 million VND. During the war against the US, Ms. Thang was a Youth Volunteer (TNXP), enlisted in 1969, and operated mainly in the mountainous areas of Western Quang Tri.

The main tasks were to fill bomb craters, clear roads, transport weapons and food to the battlefield, and transport wounded soldiers to the rear for treatment. In 1972, while transporting food with her teammates, Ms. Thang was hit by a bomb fragment and had to be discharged from the army.

Returning home after 3 years of fighting in the Truong Son mountains with many hardships, fierceness and a head wound, Mrs. Thang was not as normal as before. Some time later, she married Mr. Nguyen Van Viet, a demobilized soldier from the same village.

However, due to exposure to toxic chemicals during her years on the battlefield, former Youth Volunteer Nguyen Thi Thang encountered many misfortunes in childbirth. After 7 births, she and her husband were only able to raise one son, but he suffered from epilepsy and had an abnormal personality. A few years ago, due to conflicts with his wife, Ms. Thang's son committed murder and was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison.

Due to sadness, Mr. Viet passed away 2 years ago, leaving his wife in a dilapidated house that had been built for decades, waiting to collapse. On a stormy day, the neighbors had to take Mrs. Thang to their house for shelter, because they were worried that she would not be safe alone.

Through the connection of the local government, Ms. Thang received 70 million VND from a business to build a new house. After a period of construction, the house was basically completed with an area of 30 m2, brick walls, tiled floor, small area but sturdy. "After living in a dilapidated house all my life, now that I have a new house, I am very happy and excited. This year's Tet, I have a more decent place to worship my ancestors and my husband" - Mrs. Thang confided.

Sharing the joy with Mrs. Thang, the family of Mr. Tran Huu Xuan (born in 1951) in Hamlet 2, Cat Van Commune (Thanh Chuong) has just been handed over a house of gratitude with the help of the Navy Command. Mr. Xuan is a former Navy commando, who spent 4 years (1969 - 1973) operating and fighting in the Cua Viet and Dong Ha areas (Quang Tri), was awarded the Third Class Military Exploit Medal and the title of Brave Soldier, and is a 4/4 disabled veteran.

Returning to normal life, the family faced many difficulties due to having many children, his wife was often sick and had to spend a lot of money on medical treatment. His health also declined rapidly, his injuries kept recurring, he could not take care of farming, causing the family's economy to always be in a state of shortage.

The old house has been damaged and leaky for many years. They have considered repairing it many times but they still do not have enough money. Mr. Xuan and his wife always live in anxiety and worry, especially on rainy and windy days when water leaks everywhere.

Knowing the situation of Mr. Tran Huu Xuan, his former comrades proposed to the Navy Command for help. With the support of 70 million VND, plus the contribution of his children and additional loans, Mr. Xuan's family built a new, spacious house with an area of 100 m2.2worth 300 million dong

Mr. Xuan excitedly said: “Tet 2020 will definitely be the happiest ever, because the family will be able to gather and reunite in a spacious and cozy house. At the age of “rare”, having worked hard all his life to make a living, a house is a dream, now it has come true, there is truly no greater joy”.

These days, two war veterans, Pham Hong Dinh in Da Son commune and Tong Viet Chung in Minh Son commune (Do Luong), were also welcomed with great joy when the district War Veterans Association handed over gratitude houses. They were both people who returned from fierce battlefields, facing difficulties in economic development due to frequent illness and disease.

The greatest wish of these two veterans is to have a sturdy house to protect them from the rain and sun in their old age. In response to the difficulties of their comrades, the District Veterans Association supported Mr. Dinh and Mr. Chung with 30 million VND each to build a house. This amount was taken from the “Pink Brick” Fund, which members throughout the district had saved to contribute, support and help comrades in especially difficult circumstances.

Due to economic difficulties, the family lives in a seriously degraded house, a benefactor supported 50 million VND and brothers and relatives supported with materials and labor to build a new house worth 65 million VND.

In Thai Hoa town, the family of Mr. Vu Ngoc Di, Doc Cao block (Quang Tien ward) has 3 children, the eldest daughter has cerebral palsy, the couple's income is unstable. His family has just received 40 million VND from the Town Youth Union to build a "House of Love", which has now been completed and put into use.

Then Ms. Tran Thi Lien in Tan Son hamlet, Ky Tan commune (Tan Ky), who has a congenital disability and is a single mother, has just received the “Shelter of Love” supported by the Provincial and District Women’s Union. From now on, the mother and daughter have escaped the situation of living in a cramped, damp house, where every time it rains heavily, water from the garden floods in…

In 2019, the whole province mobilized to support the Fund for the Poor and support housing improvement for poor households and families with revolutionary contributions with a total amount of over 90 billion VND, building and repairing over 1,000 Great Solidarity houses. That means welcoming the Canh Ty New Year, more than 1,000 families had the joy and warmth of having new houses.
