Nghe An farmers grow sweet corn and earn 2 million VND/sao
(Baonghean.vn) - After 80 days of planting and caring, people in An Hoa commune (Quynh Luu) are now harvesting Thai sweet corn and selling it at a very good price.
Ms. Mai Thi Xuan in Toan Luc village, An Hoa commune said that this spring, her family planted 2 sao of sweet corn. After nearly 3 months of planting and caring, the corn has now been harvested.
With 2 sao of corn, Ms. Xuan has 1.7 tons of corn, with a selling price of 3,800 VND/kg of corn, she has a revenue of more than 6 million VND; minus the costs of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides... she still has a profit of about 2 million VND/sao.

Up to now, the whole An Hoa commune has developed an area of 40 hectares of sweet corn; planted with a density of about 40,000 - 50,000 plants/ha; productivity reaches nearly 16 tons/ha; according to the market price of 3,800 VND/kg; on average, 1 hectare brings in an income of more than 60 million VND.
Every year, An Hoa commune people grow 2 crops of sweet corn and 1 crop of regular corn. For Thai sweet corn, from planting to harvesting, the locality has a partnership so the output is always stable, people can rest assured in production.

In each harvest, in addition to selling corn, people also cut down trees to sell to the dairy company for 60,000 VND/quintal; on average, for 1 sao of corn, people earn an additional 300,000 - 500,000 VND/sao.
Currently, Thai sweet corn has proven to be 1.5 - 2 times more economically efficient than rice cultivation, contributing to increasing income for people in An Hoa commune.
