Reviewing landslide and flash flood risk areas in Tuong Duong district

Tuong Duong district is an area where flash floods and landslides frequently occur, and also an area where a large number of people have to be evacuated due to landslides. Based on the direction of the province as well as the urgency of proactively preventing natural disasters, every year, the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district organizes a review and consolidation of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control from the district to the grassroots level, assigning specific tasks to each member in conjunction with the responsibilities of the heads of departments, branches and units.

Along with that, the district guides communes and towns to build a commune-level disaster prevention and control shock team; build and strengthen the grassroots disaster prevention and control shock force, report the current situation according to Decision No. 08/QD-TWPCTT dated March 27, 2020 of the Steering Committee; conduct field inspections at some typical communes; ensure sufficient conditions to meet people's living requirements and comply with regulations on on-site disaster prevention and control.

At the same time, the locality focuses on natural disaster prevention and control according to the "4 on-site" motto to respond to storms, floods, inundation, flash floods, landslides, etc., especially necessary measures to ensure the safety of people's lives are also strictly built by the district.

Every year, Tuong Duong district has developed plans to mobilize forces, materials, and means; organize evacuation of people, ensure population safety when natural disasters occur; plans to protect dikes, dams, and key works; plans to prevent and combat floods downstream of reservoirs, especially evacuating people downstream in case reservoirs release floodwaters.

At the inspection, comrade Doan Hong Vu - Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs suggested: The District People's Committee should direct the review of landslide and flash flood risk areas throughout the district; Add to the plan the content of disease prevention and control for humans and livestock when floods occur, especially the Covid-19 epidemic. Along with that, it is necessary to concentrate resources, speed up the completion of resettlement areas to bring people to live stably, ensuring safety in the upcoming rainy and stormy season. Regularly inspect the PCTT-TKCN work in communes and towns, especially the contents of the "4 on-site" motto; do a good job of propaganda, warning and forecasting to minimize damage to people and property.

Also at the meeting, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs presented 70 million VND to students of Luong Minh commune to support the purchase of books and notebooks for disadvantaged students before the new school year.
