Super thief gets 2 sentences
(Baonghean.vn) - On May 15, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of Cao Xuan Son (born in 1972), residing in Con Cuong town (Con Cuong district) for the crimes of "Theft of property" and "Gambling". This case also includes Huynh Thi Thu Ha (born in 1976), residing in Con Cuong town, who also "received a sentence".
The investigation agency clarified that from November 2015 to June 2017, Cao Xuan Son committed 11 thefts, appropriating more than 2.2 billion VND. Son's method was to target schools and enterprises in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, then find a way to break into these units, then use a drill to break into safes to steal money and valuable assets.

The stolen money was used by Son for personal expenses and lottery. In just 2 days, July 19-20, 2017, Cao Xuan Son gambled in the form of lottery by texting Huynh Thi Thu Ha with an amount of up to 340 million VND and lost almost all of it.
The panel of judges determined that Cao Xuan Son’s actions were particularly serious, infringing on the property rights of schools and businesses. The defendant had a bad personal history. In 1994, the Con Cuong District People’s Court sentenced him to 12 months in prison for “Theft of citizens’ property” and “Theft of socialist property”. In 2011, Son was sentenced to 11 months in prison for “Theft of property”. The defendant did not learn from this and continued to reoffend, so a very severe sentence was needed.
The People's Court sentenced Cao Xuan Son to 15 years in prison for "Theft of property" and 2 years in prison for "Gambling", forcing the defendant to compensate for all the property he had appropriated from units and businesses.
For the crime of "Gambling", Huynh Thi Thu Ha was also sentenced to 2 years in prison.
