Quynh Lien Commune, Hoang Mai Town currently has 350 hectares of vegetable cultivation land, of which chayote is one of the main products with an area of 70 hectares, with an average yield of 12 tons/sao/crop. However, what farmers have long been worried about is the unstable output, most farmers have to find their own output for their products on the free market.
Although Quynh Lien chayote has been registered as a collective trademark since 2016, the consumption market is still limited and prices are unstable.
After many efforts, this year the People's Committee assigned Quynh Lien General Agricultural Service Cooperative to plant 8 hectares of chayote according to VietGAP process, so the chayote of Hoang Mai town was truly welcomed by supermarkets.

The good news is that since February 21, a clean vegetable business unit in the province has contacted a number of supermarkets inside and outside the province to sell Hoang Mai chayote products. Although the daily output of chayote in supermarkets is not much (over 10 tons/day), it has partly solved the problem of unsold and falling prices in Quynh Lien.
It is known that the price of chayote in Quynh Lien commune from the end of January 2019 until now, traders only buy 200 - 500 VND/kg, but the supplier to the supermarket buys for people at 1,500 VND/kg. Meanwhile, according to research, the price of Hoang Mai chayote sold in the supermarket system is currently 5,900 VND/kg.
According to Mr. Hoang Ngoc Thuy - Head of the Economic Department of Hoang Mai town, the fact that chayote products have been sold in supermarket systems in recent times is a step forward for local chayote products, contributing to expanding the consumption market.
